Hi there, what a great forum this is.

I’ve done a seach but can’t diagnose the problem on my Smeg DWI45.1. The unit seems to have ‘frozen’ mid cycle. The 4th light is flashing as if the programme has finished, but we can’t select another programme. Using the on/off and programme button has no effect.

I’ve read the handbook, and this isn’t a listed error code. Can anyone help?

I’ve just read a user manual for this model.

On page 53, follow the “unnuling a programme” sequence and see what happens.

Tried that one and unfortunately the programme doesn’t reset. After the 5sec hold nothing happens at all and the light just keeps blinking…

Have also tried turning it off at the mains for a prolonged period of time in the hope that the PCB would reset. No luck though.

    Possibly the PCB then 🙁

Engineer time to diagnose though as it may be something causing a software lock up.

Check repairs@ and the directories 😀

Well – took the board out last night to check for obvious signs of burning/shorts and general brokeness but couldn’t see anything.

However, on reassembly it started working again, kind of. When it finishes a cycle, the light doesn’t flash as it used to do. Also, the programme button is pretty unresponsive – it will beep, but can take two or three presses for the light to move along.

I had a look at the info that I have on this machine last night David and it’s sounding awfully like the board that failed I’m afraid. 🙁

    How old is it?

It may be worth getting it checked out properly though as the PCB timers aren’t the cheapest of things to be having a guess at and, they’re non-returnable.

    Thanks for the advice kwatt.

It’s nearly 3 years old. The drain pump went in year 2 of ownership but luckily my extended Barclaycard warranty covered that bill (£120).

    No warranty anymore though…

I’m tempted not to throw good money after bad, any thoughts?

It’s not a bad machine in all honesty and, not too cheap to replace either. 😕

Even to have the board replaced, if that is indeed the fault, should be under £200 easily but obviously it may be something else more minor, I should think that is the worst case scenario.
