ParticipantHi, I’ve been trying to help out my elderly neighbour – but have really got stuck. I went round to see if I could help her fix, or replace her washing machine. What I found was a machine jammed in a cupboard that was exactly 50cm wide. Had to take the door off the cupboard to even open the filter cleaning compartment. Previous engineers have refused to work on it because it was so tightly jammed in.
We agreed that we would look for a slim width machine with a much smaller drum capacity so she wouldn’t have problems like this in future. Searching AO, etc. for that, we found a Zanussi and a Candy AQUA1042D1 that we thought were only 40cm in width. However, turns out I got that wrong, and the Zanussi is 49.6cm and the Candy 51cm!
I had to cancel an AO.com order as they went out of stock, and fortunately Appliances Direct have helped me discover the problem before they delivered. My neighbour is very stressed, having been entirely isolated for months – so I’m desperate to try to get this sorted for her.
Does anyone know of a narrow machine – ideally 45cm or less – but could be as much as 48cm. It must be a FRONT LOADER – as the cupboard into which it goes doesn’t allow for a top loader to open. She had chosen a 4kg load capacity over the 3kg capacity beforehand, so not keen to go below 4kg if we can avoid it.
So desperate to calm this elderly lady’s stresses! Thanks in advance.

KeymasterWe’ve been asked this before and Don will know for sure but, I don’t think that there are any at all now, they’re all 60cm wide.

ParticipantGuys. I’m sorry, I’ve been somehow confused! The cupboard was actually just under 60cm, and not 50. The nice people at Appliances Direct have confused me, and the 51cm wide Candy is actually the right one! I’ll let you read this, then delete my post and thank you for your attention!

The Candy and Zanussi are the only compact domestic machines available.
That said I have seen the odd smaller machines via caravan and marine outlets, they do come at a price though!!
