ParticipantHi all,
I’ve got a Diplomat APM 6217 freezer. I defrosted it yesterday, and it’s currently unplugged and completely dry inside – yet it’s still dripping water. I didn’t use any sharp implements or heat sources in the defrosting – just let it defrost naturally. On closer inspection I see that the water coming from the back of the unit, leaking out where the slightly soft silver/grey back panel meets the white metal exterior. The water is leaving slightly red/yellow trails (a sign of some rust inside, perhaps?).
Any advice? Do I just let it dry and turn it on again, or call an engineer?
Incidentally, if anyone has a manual for this machine, I’d love a copy. The unit was installed by the previous owners of the house, and they didn’t leave a manual. The link in the sticky at the top of this forum is dead (probably because Diplomat is defunct) and the closest I’ve found online is a manual for the APM 6218, which looks to have a self-defrosting feature that the 6217 doesn’t have (I can’t see a drain hole inside my unit, anyway), so it’s not much help.

Moderatorthat sounds a bit like you have insulation problems and ice has formed inside the casing
when you restart see if you have any cold spots on the casing, you may see condensation this weather
if yes then it cant be fixed it would need replacing

ParticipantThanks Dave.
I restarted the freezer yesterday and left it running overnight. There wasn’t any condensation on the outside, and nowhere felt colder than the metal skin of the washing machine. It sounded normal and the food compartment inside seemed as cold as usual. There wasn’t any more dripping when I turned it off again (although I realise overnight doesn’t allow much time for ice build up even with this humidity). Do you have any other suggestions? Can you have the insulation problem without cold spots? I’m having trouble seeing how water could get to where it was coming out unless there was either an ice buildup outside the food compartment or something leaking in the machinery.

Moderatorits a suck it and see problem. quite often if you get ice build up between the skins you can get distortion of the casing as the ice expands
since if you might have got an insulation problem, and there is nothing you can do about that , you might as well run it and see how it goes

ParticipantSounds sensible – I’ll keep an eye out for any changes in the shape of the case. Thanks very much for your help.
