ParticipantI have recently installed a S/H Lamona LAM4602. When selecting the grill or fast grill function on the top oven the element around the fan also comes on. However if you select the same functions on the main oven this does not happen. Anyone know if this is right. My feeling is that the fan element will burn out if there is no air passing over it, but what do I know.

ParticipantElectrofix, thought so. Any ideas what could cause this?

Moderatorwell it looks like the unit is powered by a pcb
first check, i assume the fan does not move on any setting so may be jammed. give it a spin and see if its free to turn

ParticipantIt is controlled by a PCB.
The fan works on all functions that call for it. Spins free if you spin it.

Moderatordoes it overheat on the fan oven or any other setting ?
what i am trying to figure out is , Is the element permanently on and is not being controlled, so oven would overheat

ParticipantThe fan element is not continually on. I think it is being controlled by the termostat. When the the function reaches requested temp the elements switch off simultaneously but then both come back on to maintain or increase temp.

Moderatorsounds like the 2 are shorted together somehow
i would check wiring first, long shot but you cant rule it out

ParticipantThanks Dave. I will check it out. If they were shorted do you think the opposite would happen, if I turn the fan element on the grill would then heat up?

Moderatorwell since both elements are controlled independantly from the pcb, it sounds like the pcb is turning both relays on at the same time. if that is the case its possibly a board fault

ParticipantI will check the wires just in case. But in my mind i was thinking it might be the board.

Moderatorits a really odd fault
i would look at the board relays. check for short circuit ( long shot but it cant hurt) seems to show as relay4 controls the fan element but dont take it for grantedDave

ParticipantThanks Dave. I will have a look. Do you by chance know which relay is the grill. I will then be able to see if there is a short between them.
