More often in my experience they leave their crispy fried bodies behind.

Looking at the diagram I agree with Dave, it has to be board as the power supply chip receives power irrespective of what the door lock is doing.

rs components free P&P if business acct
    Farnell free same as above
    sometimes Ebay

decent temp controlled iron, can be picked up second hand fairly cheap but its worth it
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Weller-so…4AAOSwX3BfNu80

this is a later model that i use

    solder sucker
    de solder braid
    solder
    small side cutters

and if you like me a strong pair of glasses to see some of them

anti static well am carefull but on normal english days its too damp to be a problem as long as your not wearing the wife nylons

can talk you through the rest but find an old board to practice

Thinking of getting a soldering station as my current iron takes ages to warm up and for solder to melt. Plus the tip is not that fine.
I’ve got a dishwasher board that’s been slugged. QER says probably main chip gone. I have the board back (a new one is on order for customer). Is there a systematic way of checking components?

have got an old weller unit temp controlled 40watt
    look for one on ebay

great units, very simple, part still available as are plenty of tips. temp is controlled by the tip, all tips have a number stamped on them, higher the number the hotter the tip

    either this

As there’s no cheap Weller units going at the moment, was thinking of getting that one, read good reviews about the make and it looks like you can get replacement tips easily:
