My dishwasher has been giving several problems recently. It started with F5 and it would fail to start washing in certain programmes. I would hear some noises like it was trying to do something but it would stop after a few seconds and show the error code and beep continuously.
After a few days of this, the F5 became error code Fb. I started taking it apart and found a broken black wire at the bottom of the door (a common issue I believe). I repaired that and then found the diverter valve needed replacing. I did that and all seemed well for a few weeks. Now the F5 has returned. The same symptoms as before. The strange thing is that before the machine stopped working totally, if I opened the door during a wash, it looked like only the upper tray was being washed, not the lower one. The diverter valve again maybe?
Well now I’m back to the machine not starting to wash in any programme. It fills with water, makes some noises as before then errors-out with F5.
My question is: I know F5 is supposed to be the rotor arm is blocked or faulty in some way but in my machine, the arm spins under the pressure of the water from the pump. So what exactly does the F5 mean here? Which sensor(s) play a part in generating this code? For example, would the diverter have anything to do with it? Is there a flow sensor from the pump that would trigger it if the pump wasn’t working? Any info on this would be appreciated. I can’t seem to attach photos due to some file size restriction.

f5 is supposed to be a motor problem but is also a fault code that should not come up apart from in a test programme

Not sure why it’s appearing for me?? In my machine there is a Bleckmann pump attached to the end of the heater “tube / pipe / element”, is that likely to be the circulating pump that the F5 is referring to? It would be handy if I could post a photo but can’t for some reason.
Edit: try this album (it’s on my NAS so it will give a security certificate warning). I will leave it active for a day or two then remove the link.
is there any play in the motor shaft ?

Those photos were taken a few years ago when I replaced the heater but I guess I’ll have to remove it again to check the motor. I’ll do that tomorrow after work and post back.
Is it the pump on the end of the heater that the f5 is referring to?
Well tonight I took out the pump and heater assembly. I stripped the pump down as far as necessary and cleaned it out. It really needed it! Check out the new photos added to the shared album above.
It appears to me that pump rotor shaft is damaged. I’ve no idea how that could happen but it looks like possibly friction / overheating. I guess there are permanent magnets sealed in the plastic and it looks like one or two of them are protruding from the plastic – just a guess. This is causing a bit of friction when turning the impeller by hand. I can feel some resistance. I think this is preventing the pump from working.
I think it’s the end of the road for this machine. Dave do you happen to know the part number for a replacement pump? I think it’s around the £120 mark which really isn’t work my while considering.
The annoying thing is… when I put it all back together, I started a quick wash and it all worked well. I opened the door to make sure the bottom arm was spinning, then closed the door again. After that, F5 again and it refused to start.
Thanks Dave. After much searching I think the price of a new pump is too much. They appear to be around £110 and up. I’ll start looking for a new dishwasher I think.
There are some other manufacturer models like Beko, that appear to use a very similar pump. I reckon I could use their pump and it would work. However I’m not prepared to spend the necessary £50-£60 to try and find out.
