This issue came to my attention because Neff/ Bosch have stopped supplying an over heat Klixon on their ovens. 057895. In my opinion this is morally wrong. Replacing a good and costly oven for the sake of a inexpensive part which could easily lead to a dangerous situation if shorted out by DIYers. Is there a conversion table of these Stats? They are very common on Ovens and Tumble dryers. I believe this question has been asked before but i can’t find the link.

to be able to have a table you would have to know all the original stats of the part
not only the cutout point but also the cutin point

As engineers the problem of fitting a part that is not endorsed by the manufacturer can come back and bite you. you may think the part is suitable but if there is an accident you may be asked to prove the part you fitted met all the safety criteria

For an oven it’s not too bad Dave.

The only thing that matters is the it cuts out at or slightly under the original on and is (VERY importantly) mounted to the same surface assuming of course it’s a surface one as 99.9999{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} will be.

If it chops the power a bit early.. oh well.

    Too late… oh dear.

Fan stats on the other hand, should in theory, be the opposite if you see what I mean.

But you’d always have some variance in them anyway, they’re not exactly what you’d call medical-grade accurate by any means. Typically, IME, there’s a 5-15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} variance on most domestic oven stats, varies wildly.

The problem is often with getting the mounted where they should be in order to work as the should do and yes, as you rightly say, it’s a safety thing so it needs to be bang on or close enough so as not to pose a danger.

Thankyou both for the advice. If i remember correctly, in the mid 70ies Neff and AEG used to use heat fuses called Microtemps. Later on in the mid 80ies both companies stopped using these fuses and the spare became obsolete so we were instructed by Neff to just short the fuse out by bypassing it. By the mid 90ies they started using non resettable over heat klixons., which sometime open circuited when the element blew.
Is Karl Ulrich still the service manager of BSH?
i will contact BSH and if no joy maybe Which consumer magazine. The manufacturer of the Klixon is Kema Keur. i wonder if they are still in business. i will let you know. I feel its wrong of them to stop suppling parts like this. What a waste of money for customers and bad for the environment!

I am sorry Dave but i didn’t. It looked a bit complicated and with too many questions to ask the seller. I’ve done a temporary repair with instructions only to use the oven when around the kitchen. Thank you for the info.

Hi, did anyone manage to establish what the temperature cut off was for this (057985), as I am in need of one.

According to this ebay listing (apparently available to buy), 180 deg C:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Termostato-fijo-horno-Balay-180-BALAY-57895-Termostatos-ClixonBALAY/223545745856?hash=item340c5d61c0:g:v5oAAOSwDKdfNCbB

Also available under the preceding part number 030746 here:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Termostato-Siemens-Bosch-00030746-Termostati-Lavaggio/254804445605?hash=item3b538749a5:g:19IAAOSwlElfl604

As always, worth double checking stock with the seller, as well as checking their willingness to ship to GB given the new trade barriers created by Brexit.
