With the long potential lifespan of gas cookers, limited awareness of the longstanding recall among owners, and the infringement of operating instructions by a small minority of users, I fear these deaths will continue to occur. At least it brings the recall back into the news, hopefully reducing the risk to more lives in the future.

n the context of around 500 deaths a day currently in the UK due to coronavirus pandemic, and 5 deaths a day on average in road accidents, 1 or 2 deaths a year from Beko and Leisure gas cookers is perhaps not so concerning.

would not be hard to insist on carbon monoxide detectors and make it part of any gas safety check
