KeymasterHi all,
I’ve had a quick look around and couldn’t find any matching threads already so I thought I would post and ask the experts directly!
Basically our HOTPOINT Aquarius Extra WMA37 1400 is leaving little holes (2mm x 2mm) in clothes. I’ve checked all around the rubber and I cannot find anything sharp or lodged.
Any ideas? It is under extended warranty but I’d rather know what it is likely to be before I approach the retailer.
Many thanks.

KeymasterDamaged drum, bra wire poking through a hole, or the seal has too big a gap at the drum lip would be first ports of call. If it were new I’d suggest overloading as well. 😉

The 3 turquoise coloured ‘Drum Paddles’ are renowned for damaging clothing, most likely at least one has come loose 🙁

Thanks for the replies:
1) Checked the drum paddles and they slide backwards and forth without too much force, but I wouldn’t call them loose thats for sure as I can bearly get my nail under the sides.
2) Checked every inch of the drum (inside) with my hand and couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary like bra wires etc.. Even span it and couldn’t hear anything.
3) The gap between the drum lip and the door sill is 3-4mm all the way round, is that too much? Plus there isn’t a gap between the metal drum and the drum rubber.
4) Thought it could be overloading so put on a test wash and it came out with one pair of trousers with 10 holes in them all within a six inch square?!?!
The unit is about 2 years old and I have run out of any ideas. Any more suggestions before I call in the heavy squad? Thanks…. 🙂

Daft question if your spinning on the 1400 spin with very dalicate or thin materials of clothing then the suction from the spin will cause the garments to tear so idea would be to reduce the spin speed.

Thanks I might give the tights thing a go! 🙂
As for the 1400 spin speed it appears to happen at any spin speed and the latest victim is a pair of heavy jeans!

If the clothes get caught between the drum and the door seal the affect you would see would be a tear and a grey rubber mark on them (Door Seal) if they are small holes then I would be looking at damaged drum as already suggested . Also check for movement in the drum up and down poss. drum on spin dropping and catching element
My guess is damaged drum to cause small holes as you described
Good LuckJune 11, 2005 at 12:51 am #136649Jim_1
ParticipantHi there…pretty expensive on clothes i guess…however the problem is not just related to your hotpoint, all machines can do this , The inner drum of the machine has suffered damage which is causing the destruction of the garments, and sometimes it requires the trained eye of an engineer to actually spot the damage…A replacement drum and bearing kit is the only permanent soloution to your problem and again this will depend on age and condition of the appliance..if under 5yrs old then hotpoint will replace this under parts warranty you only pay the service call charge…good luck
