My Brandt larder frigde is acting up, the compressor runs, but at a low level continually and it is icing up at the top 1/3 of the back, it is suppsoed to be frost free but this has stopped happening. The ice build up is not too bad and and the temperature seems to stay at a reasonable level, it does not get warm or freeze the contents of the fridge. Door seal is intact, and the temperature control does not seem to have any affect on compressor action. Is it the PCB control or soemthing else?

The details of the fridge are:
    Compressor?:SCA410XU
    Manufacturer: Brandt
    Refrigerant: R600a
    Type: A409001.
    Serial No: A409BGB716D
Made: 01-27-1 (that how it’s printed)

Any advice appreciated as I cannot find any details anywhere on this
    model.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Re: Brandt Apollo Fridge Problem

    hi,

With R600a the charge of refrigerant is usually low, typical fridge freezer around 50grams.

So, if the compressor oil has absored some of that gas charge it will leave the system undercharged. A 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reduction will cause the fault you report, 5 grams.

Remember that the approx control is -18degrees to turn off the compressor at setting 2 on the stat. Its possible the freezer reaches -14 and does not switch off, causing over icing, and excess heat in the compressor oil, which compounds the problem and causes more absorbtion of the gas charge.

Go into repairs@ and see if we have a system engineer in your area.

    Re: Brandt Apollo Fridge Problem

    hi,

Thanks for that, just to check though (being a bit thick here), the problem will be the same for a larder fridge as the temperature range quoted relates to a freezer.

I need to know before getting in an engineer as to get the fridge out means removing a worktop and creating general chaos.

Yes, the same applies for fridges Dave.

Why on earth does the worktop have to be removed to get the fridge out though ? 😯

    Hi Dave,

Don’t laugh, it’s an old house built in the 1700’s and space is at a premium. Idiot here, when remodelling the kitchen, forgot to check the dimensions of the pipe work for the radiator, this was fitted up last after the room was painted and you guessed it the fridge installed. Although the fridge slid in past the pipes ok, the 30mm increse in width due to the radiator being there means its trapped, but if you take off the adjacent worktop you get enough of a slew on it to get the fridge out! 😳

One of those things it’s best not to explain when selling the place I suppose!

    Dave,
    Ok you can laugh now.
