    Hello,

    I have a Whirlpool AKP201/IX oven/grill in a property I moved into last year.

I am a bit stuck, I have always used the fan oven option and its been fine for 9 months. Recently I have noticed it is taking longer to heat up to 200 degrees in fan oven mode. However, in conventional oven mode, no fan it heats up fine and quickly. So I’m thinking the elements are working and thermostat as its working in this mode, I don’t feel it cooks as well but its heating up.

Just strange how it will work in conventional mode fine but fan mode it won’t, the top element is glowing red and appears to be working, I can’t see the bottom element as it is hidden but like I say its reaching the correct temperature in conventional mode and if I feel the bottom of the oven its hot. The thermostat sensor isn’t touching the sides either.

I know normally its the thermostat sensor or the elements gone wrong but since both appear to be working in one mode its difficult to diagnose the issue.

Just looking for some advice on potential causes? I don’t want to just replace things for the sake of it as for some reason for my serial/model number I can only find genuine parts which are £60 for elements, rather than £20 for similar models.

Also the fan is spinning and appears to be working normally. Grill fan mode also appears to heat up normally, so it’s just oven fan mode that is not heating correctly, I understand conventional mode seems to be heating up but it’s leading me to believe its the lower element that could potentially be faulty since the grill is working OK.

    Thank you for any help.

well if its working ok in conventional mode and looking at the diagrams it seems only to have the 2 elements i would look at the selector switch

OK thanks very much, will have a look at that, not an expensive part.

    Thank you.

Thanks for your help, I’m going to pull the cooker out tomorrow, I am going to check everything with a multimeter and look at the selector switch condition, I will let you know.

So I tested the lower element and the thermostat behind the control knob with a multimeter and got nothing on continuity test. The upper element i got a response but I knew that was working anyway. The thermostat bulb lights up but the actual thermostat nothing when tested, the thermostat clicks when turning the knob though. I’m no electrician or expert.

All the heat must be coming just from the top element, not sure whether to invest money in an old oven or just replace it. It does work but just very slow to heat.

Also the selector switch looked ok.
