ParticipantHi Everyone, first timer here. I’ve had a Britannia 90cm 5 burner double oven SS Fry Top model number S-10TC-CL-SC Ar No 1303 since 2004 bought new and quite a few years ago the analogue timer jammed. At the time and actually quite liking the idea of things working the way they should, I called Britannia for an idea of cost to fix it to be quoted over £200 for a site visit plus parts which from memory was close to £200 for a replacement timer. I decided to forego the luxury of the timer which we really only used for the minute minder but now my daughter-in-law has just bought a house with a very similar Britannia model in cluded and it’s prompted me to revisit the situation once again. But I’m not interested in paying what is likely to be nearly £500 just to get the timer working. I’m quite handy and can dismantle things like cookers so I’m not afraid to have a go and I know that the hob plate has to be removed to access the timer. My question is a) can these analogue timers be repaired ie if the timer mechanism is jammed is it possible to unjam it obviously recognising that it does depend on why it has jammed? b) if it can’t be repaired then is the part available from a third party supplier at a reasonable price c) is there a drop in alternative which can be fitted using the existing wiring and d) would be it be possble to change the timer to a digital model if the stainless steel face plate (behind the knobs) is also changed? Obviously the success or failure of this last solution depends on being able to acquire both the face plate and the timer for a reasonable price.
So any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.
Regards

Moderatorlooking quickly i cant see an analogue clock for sale for your model. its likely this could be difficult to get. I think there may be another number that will tie your cooker to a particular model as i did find your model but it has an electronic timer
model i found was SI-10TC-CL-SC (544440456)
Do you need the timer functions as its possible to disable the timer so the oven will work without it

ParticipantHi Dave,
Many thanks for the reply. The oven works fine without the timer. In fact I don’t think I ever used the timer function but I did use the countdown timer. As I say, I’m only enquiring as to whether there was an economical way of repairing/replacing the timer unit as I don’t like things that don’t work and it annoys me everytime I look at it when I think how much I paid for what I assumed was a top quality British brand when in fact it’s just fancy overpriced Italian rubbish which comes with call out and parts charges that border on extortion. Nevertheless, what’s done is done but I have vowed that if anything goes wrong with it that I can’t fix myself for a reasonable cost and is going to require a Britannia engineer then it’s going to the tip.
But I am interested if there is a timer that will fit. Bear in mind that the hole in the fascia for the timer is oval not rectangular.Best Regards

ParticipantHi Dave,
Again, many thanks for the reply. I’ve looked on the shop site but can’t see the timer you’re talking about. Would you please post a link.
BTW, thanks for the engineers. I’ll bear Appliance Force in mind as they seem pretty close.

ParticipantHi Paul
Did you ever find out if you can unjam the analogue timer? I have the same problem with my cooker of same model as yours and also won’t pay stupid money to fix but will give sensible repair strategies a go as I am very hands on.
cheers

ParticipantHi Peter,
Regretfully I didn’t and despite Dave’s help I couldn’t find an aftermarket substitute so I gave up, swearing I’d never buy another Britannia branded cooker again. At the end of the day I only ever used to use the timer so it was no great practical loss. I just don’t like having things that don’t work especially things that cost a ridiculous amount of money in the first place such as this cooker. What really annoys me is that I bought all the extras to go with it thinking I was buying a quality product which would last a life time. How wrong I was! In the immortal words of the song – I won’t get fooled again!
Good luck with finding a realistically priced fix and if you do find one please let me know.
