ParticipantI have an Indesit R 24 Fridge/Freezer which, after powering up and with the controller set to 3.5 (out of 5), runs for about three and three-quarter hours by which time the freezer compartment has got down to around -15C and the fridge to -3.5C. At that stage the entire unit trips off. I have checked the thermal overload switch on the compressor and that is OK. If I just leave the unit alone it eventually restarts of its own accord after about an hour (plus or minus 10 minutes). The same process then repeats. Whatever is tripping or switching off is connected to the line supply lead which disppears up into the upper levels of the unit (because that wire remains open circuit after the tripping). There is no manual that I can find for the model so I have no idea how to dismantle the back panel to get at the controller/fan/defrost heater/etc that may be causing the problem. Is there another thermal overload switch in that area or is this looking like a control board problem? Any suggestions gratefully received and, in particular, any advice about accessing those other components behind the freezer section (the freezer compartment appears to be a complete moulding with no access or screw holes). Thanks in anticpation.

ParticipantI’m no expert!
Sounds like the fridge stat has failed and the compressor is running into overheat?
The fridge being too cold points to that?January 28, 2021 at 1:01 pm #474739Butchersdog
ParticipantThanks for the response, Luggsey. However, I have just realised that I may have misled you (and anyone else) in my original post. The fridge actually gets down to around PLUS 3.5 degrees as it should do. (Not the -3.5 deg I put in the post!) I am also pretty certain that the compressor is not overheating since, although it gets quite warm, its own thermal switch is not tripping. The real frustration continues to be that I have ne idea how to access the other components. There are no visible means of access behind the freezer compartment and the unit construction uses the two side panels to overlap the fridge and freezer compartments at the front and to which they appear to be stuck (as in glued). Oh for the days when you could get service manuals!
In the absence of advice to the contrary from anyone else who has managed to service one of these units eventually I shall just have to bite the bullet and strip it down by unsticking everything. -
