    Hi
We had a recent power cut while we were away for the weekend (the microwave time was flashing). When we came back our Samsung Fridge Freezer SRS20 (the one with the ice cube maker in the door on the left) was making a strange noise.
It seems when the thermostat kicks in to chill the fridge section and the fan (?) starts up, there is instead of a low hum, what sounds like the fan scraping against other metal.
Anyone else had this? i.e. is it just a loose bolt that I can easily take the back of and tighten up? Or would it definately be an engineer job?
Thanks for your help in advance 😀

I think what’s happened is the ice has started to melt during the power cut then re-frozen the water droplets around the fan which the fan is now hitting.

Best solution is to do a total defrost which should clear any excess ice. 48 hours required with both doors left open and a friendly neighbour with some spare freezer space.

Hopefully that should do the trick, leaving you free to wander the plains of the Masai Mara 😆

    Dave.

I had exactly the same problem. It persisted for about 2 months then the fan unit packed it. I’m still awating a replacement part and an engineer to fix it. The part that needs replacing is the fan and compressor unit that can be accessed via the front of the fridge section, rather than from the back. I’ve been quoted about £375 for the part.
    🙁

    Geez.
Actually, yesterday, by mistake, my kids switched off the ice making option. And the noise has stopped.
Also the fan would start, then stop, then start a bit longer, then stop, as if it was either hard to start up or even that the temperature was at the “cut off point” and there was zero tolerance, or as if it was finding it hard to get started. A bit like try to get a car started that had a fuel feed problem.

So I am guessing that there is something to do with that. But dont know what.

    But £375.

We do have a guarantee but with Scottish Power who went bust.

I would seriously double check the price of £375 for any part accessed from inside the fridge on that model 😕
Even £37.50 might be a bit pricey for the fan motor.
Try the help desk and Dave should be able to give you a better idea of prices for the parts you need. 😀

I’ll dig out the part number and drop Dave a line. Thanks for the advice! 😉
