i have a question about a beer cooler that i have.
The beer cooler is for my home bar and is the type that is used in pubs etc. You have a compressor that cools a water tank and beer flows through pipes (coil) and exits being cooled.When i switch on my beer cooler it blows the fuse straight away. I have checked the electrical connections and they are fine – not broken or damaged.
The compressor model is GL60TB (Electrolux)
I checked the resistance on the 3 pins on the side of the compressor and i got the following readings:-
– .. .. (A)
. . .. / .
. .. . ./. …
………/……..
……(B)……. (C)Resistance = A-B =- 30.9 ohms
A-C – 11.4 ohms
does anyone have any ideas on what i can check next ? Any help much appreciated.Thank you

ParticipantAn electrical component is obviously failed or down to earth, there are not too many parts on these systems. compressor, fan, circulation motor and thermostat, I would disconnect individual parts from the supply and keep on till the fuse stops blowing.

Thank you Tony for your reply.you are correct there are only a few parts that can go wrong (Compressor, relay, capacitor & cooling fan).
what is the best way to test a compressor ?

ParticipantCheck there is no circuit from the compressor pins to earth, but as stated, remove power wires to each component one at a time and by a process of elimination you will find what part is faulty.

ParticipantResistance between the common, start and run windings should not be of concern, generally if you have a circuit between pins it indicates the windings are intact. the fuse is blowing due to an earth short or compressor drawing to many amps on start up.
So we are back to my original suggestion. -
