ParticipantHaving just replaced one shock absorber the machine is begining to stop dancing and vibrating the full house.
Was going to attempt to replace other two .One is easy in that access is not a problem but the front one is hard up against the concrete counter balance.
Do I have to take the full of the front of the machine off to get to the pin? Do I saw the pin out and will there be space to put it in facing the other way, i.e pin point facing concrete balance – at the moment it is the nut end that is against the concrete counter weight. ?
Any help welcome.

Moderatornothing in the tech
does look like the front comes off some how
i would not cut the pin. i get them out by putting a 13mm ring spanner over the end to hold the barb in then drift them out

ParticipantThanks Dave. The problem is that there is no space to extract the pin as the side opposite to the barb is hard up against the concrete. The only way I can think is if I loosen off the chassis side and hope it gives some play in the space.

or remove the pin from the drum first and it may allow the weight to push up and away

ParticipantProcedure for replacing the left-hand front shock absorber
(seen from the base of the appliance):The two pins securing this shock absorber are inserted one opposite the
other; removing one pin from its seat does not
cause any hindrance.
Removing the other pin on the other hand requires
cutting it and inserting the new one from the opposite side.
To do that,
remove the internal pressure chamber.
Cut the pin and remove it.
Take the shock absorber out of its seat.
Turn the shock absorber stem,
so as to position the wide edge of the bushing on the opposite side to its initial
position.
Reposition the shock absorber in its seat and insert the new pin.
Reposition the internal pressure chamber in its seat, insert the pipe connecting the pressure gauge and make sure
that it is positioned correctly in its seat around the welded tub.February 28, 2021 at 6:44 am #475448Newbuilder
ParticipantThanks for this.
Can I ask for some clarity on
Turn the shock absorber stem,
so as to position the wide edge of the bushing on the opposite side to its initial
position.Does this mean that the shock absorber is installed a different way to it looks at the moment? Or is this just telling me how to remove it?

Sorry, it wasn’t too clear. It’s just telling you how to remove the old one. The new one is installed in the same way as the old one.

ParticipantSo cut bolt end off, grab barb end with pliers and do a lot of “persuading” and cursing?

ParticipantSounds about right. I must add that I haven’t done it for myself. The information is abridged from the service manual. Let us know how you get on.

ParticipantI also assume that as the machine is shaking itself senseless and these dampers all have the grease now at the pins that they are past it and need replaced? As I say one done already and it has reduced, just need to do the other two.

ParticipantYes. I would replace all three.

ParticipantSurprised you have a suspension problem on this thing. What type of floor have you? A post 1980s build on thin wooden raised floor or is the machine on a concrete floor? How old is it? Has the machine been moved from one house to another? If so are the transit bolts still attached. Is the machine Teressa May`d: strong and stable rather than ending-up wibbly wobbly? Might be a good idea to double check.

ParticipantNot moved, transit bolts out. Yes wooden suspended floor but has been fine for last year up until now. So either the timbers holding the house are gone or the shocks are.
