    Hi all,

Originally bought my Ise10 washing machine based on the recommendations from this site, that was about 12+ years ago.

The machine for a few months has stopped automatically opening the door at the end of the cycle, a few days ago it started leaking a pool of water on the floor in front of the machine, to cap it off, no doubt my own fault I filled it with a single duvet which stuffed it to capacity last night before bed (have done the same many times before admittedly). So this morning I go in, and discover the machine has not done the wash at all. Initially I thought maybe I’d been too delicate with the start button, so I pressed it again, it starts and you can hear and see the water going in, but after that nothing happens. The drum doesn’t automatically start turning like usual (it does move freely when emptied btw).

Is it gubbed and ready for the dusty bin, or does anyone know of a simple fix/reset.

I found a reset/test cycle set of commands on this forum, but unless I’m missing something they don’t do anything for me. Obviously the machine is now old, it’s got a couple of other issues, i.e you can’t get into it automatically and it pees itself, that on top of now not washing and the company being long since bust, would lead me to believe it’s for the knackers yard? I’ve looked on here and there’s no repairman in my area btw Penrith, Cumbria CA10. I won’t be able to repair it myself either.

I’ll order a new machine today if it’s not going to be a straightforward fix. Any suggestions or just bin it?

    Cheers.

well from what i can see your machine may have carbon brushes in the motor. if thats all thats wrong with it then is an easy fix

Thanks for your response, what makes you say that’s what it could be? How expensive a fix is it, could someone with no knowledge do it or would I need to find an engineer willing to work on these?

IM assuming that’ll still still leave the issue with the door not automatically opening and it’s incontinence?

    Cheers.

brushes are at the back of ther motor and all washing machine motors that are fitted with brushes are similar

you need to find your motor. find the brushes and remove one to see if its worn to nothing

if its a none brush motor then it gets a lot harder and costly

look for utube vids on changing washer brushes as its a good guide

If you can find the exact model number you can tell if it has a brush gear motor or not. The very first ISE10 was model number W1406. This has a brush gear motor. The later models starting with W1606 have all got 3 phase motors without brushes.

These are the brushes used in the W1406 machine. D240054 FHP Motor Carbon Brushes (ukwhitegoods.co.uk)

I installed the one and only W1406 on my area in Jan 2008 and my first W1606 on Feb 2008 so yours could well be either.

    Hi iadom,

Thanks very much for your reply, any advice or help is much appreciated. Although with today likely being the end of the Easter Bank Holiday sales I’m tempted to very sadly just call it a day on my machine.

The front of the machine says 1606W so it sounds like it won’t be the brushes and I’m back to square one unfortunately.

    Cheers.

Given the door lock problems, the leak and the rather high costs of any motor/control related faults I would sadly advise retirement.:(
