I’ve had my vacuum for 2 months and recently it’s been emitting a weird burning smell. When I checked the exhaust filter, it was completely black, which was off as I’ve only had it a short period of time. When I changed the filter and used the vacuum for like 2 mins, the new filter had also turned black as well, so something’s clearly not right! Any idea of what could be causing it?

Also – does anyone know what the black foam thing is directly above the exhaust filter? When I touch it, my hands go black. Not sure what it’s meant to be doing, as it’s not mentioned in the manufacturing guide and can’t see any info on replacing it / what its role is. I can’t seem to send a photo unfortunately as not enough space.

You will have a block charcoal filter which has a replaceable electrostatic filter on top of that, this needs to be replaced and comes with every set of bags. The black one is the inlet filter which needs to be kept clean as well. Pages 52 and 53 of your instruction manual cover filters.

As Dave has advised don’t play with it ring Miele.
