We’ve moved to Barcelona and now moving to an unfurnished unit soon. We have a baby, so laundry is like an every-other-day task. At first I had budgeted around 800-1000 euros for a washer (don’t need a dryer), and with that I could’ve bought a Miele I think 9kg with TwinDos tech. But then I saw an LG with Steam technology that I thought is pretty cool and good, and now I’ve come across a Bosch-owned Spanish brand called Balay. Some will turn their nose on it thinking it’s a cheap brand, but every review of their fridges/laundry machines I’ve read is actually quite positive (more positive than Miele, in fact, but that might be because of expectations relative to how much money has been spent). And I can get a Balay with automatic dispenser (like TwinDos) for 2/3 or even 1/2 the price of the Miele.

So I just wanted to ask
    1) if anyone has any experience with Balay, and
    2) Do you have any recommendations otherwise?

As a sidenote, also looking for a fridge, around 350-450L net capacity, and ideally with decent energy rating. Freezer at the bottom is fine (though I prefer side-by-side, but they usually have lower energy ratings). Budget again around 1000 euros.

    Thanks!

Balay is just a local Spanish Bosch owned brand, nothing wrong with it really. The only problem we ever have is people bringing them back to the UK where there’s no support for it here as it’s a local brand.

But, that also means that nobody here knows what it is or corresponds to in the Bosch range.

Auto dispensers though for domestic use are, in my opinion and that of most with any real knowledge, a waste of space. Commercial use, different but for domestic purposes, avoid is my advice.

Sorry, but can you please explain why you think autodispensers are a waste of space for residential use?

it adds complexity and more to go wrong for the simple task of adding the detergent by hand

I have never been asked for an autodose washing machine.

Miele and Bosch group seem to be the only quality ones to manufacture one. Hotpoint dabbled in it a few years ago and have all but given up on it. If it were that good a system I am sure many more manufacturers would produce them.

    Explained here:

Some owners do not agree with our comments but, we’ve tested several of them, looked at how they work, and measured the performance so, what’s there is correct whether some of the commentators agree or not. But then, they did spend a ton of money getting something that somebody is then telling them wasn’t worth paying for. 😉

In manufacturers could sell people on it it’s a huge win and cash cow for them.
