ParticipantA friend of mine has just moved into a new house with an existing BEKO Dual fuel Range Cooker, Part No BE10DF, I think it must be a quite a few years old.
It was used for the first time yesterday Hobs [gas] all ok but when the oven was used, after a time it tripped the mcb in the box in the hall.
I have been and checked the external wiring, all seems OK, left it switched on for at least half an hour and it did not trip, tried all the controls and nothing tripped so assume it must be the cooker Oven that has a problem when it warms up, any ideas as to what it may be or is it a new Oven!!April 19, 2021 at 1:36 pm #476402electrofix

ParticipantThanks for your reply.
It is tripping the mcb, there was no RCD, assume house was wired before these were standardApril 19, 2021 at 7:49 pm #476404electrofix
Moderatordo you know what size the Mcb is
check the terminal block for damage. Had one the other day that had melted due to bad connection

Moderatorwell if its blowing a 32A mcb there must be a bong when it goes
you need to open it and look for problems. cant see it being an element as they dont normally do this and if they do they no longer work as an element
as a long shot remove the lamps and look inside the bulb holder and at the bottom of the lamps. seen it on a few cookers
as for replacing it dont make the assumtion its the cooker till your sure as it could be a house wiring problem

ParticipantIf it is a house wiring problem I assume that means I need an electrician, or are there a few checks I can make first?

Moderatorsince there should be a single cable from the cooker to the fuse box you can make a few checks with the power off
go behind cooker and trace cable. see where it connects and remove cover. check for damage and loose terminals
if it has a switch on the wall do that there too
