ParticipantHello
Our Bosch dishwasher is cleaned regularly but has started to leave a residue on the blades of knives and some plates. I’d liken the residue to Philidelphia Cheese(!) as it has the same consistency and appearance (although I’ve not tasted it! π )
It’s intermittent and only on a few items of cutlery and a few plates. We’ve dismantled the filters etc and cleaned it thoroughly but still it happens… π₯
Has anyone else seen this problem and/or got a suggestion as to cause and possible cure?
Many thanks

There’s a few things I’d need to know before having a guess at this one…
What model or load capacity is the dishwasher?
What detergent and rinse aid are you using?
How old is the dishwasher?
How old is the detergent and is it stored correctly, as in it’s not damp or caked?

It’s a Bosch SGS5312GB/12 and we’re using Tesco tablets (individually sealed!). The problem has occured when using Glist tablets too. D/W is 4 or 5 years old and gets used about twice a week – as mentioned, it’s pretty clean inside…
Thanks

2 things to check then, firstly, that you have plenty of salt in the reservoir and secondly, that the correct salt regulation is programmed into your machine (see user booklet for procedure) π

KeymasterThe only thing I can think on it being is powder residue TBH. But as Martin says, check the salt as well just in case as he has more experience in hard water areas than I do.
How much of this are you getting?

Thanks chaps – although it’s cheesey rather than salty (if that makes sense).
Sometimes it’s on 3 or 4 knives and 3 or 4 plates – occasionally a few more, sometimes less…
I will RTFM (!) and check the salt although ‘er indoors keeps it topped up…

Iβve never rated dishwasher tablets much. Powder dissolves so much faster and itβs easier to vary the dosage. π
On the times when this problem has arisen, has the appliance heated to dry at the end of the cycle?June 14, 2005 at 5:55 am #136940region2

We always use the same cycle – not sure what you mean by “heated to dry” but certainly it’s pretty hot in there at the end!
