When using the dryer, with the heat setting set to ‘high’ the drying light is on but there appears to be little heat coming out of the dryer (normally it pumps out warm air), the clothes are still damp and cold, I’ve cleaned the filters, condenser, air intakes etc.
The only difference is I normally run the dryer on hight heat, but last week i switched it to low heat to dry some delicate sheets, i’ve put the heat setting back to high, button clicks in ok, but it looks like the dryer still thinks its on a low heat setting?
Any advice much appreciated before i decide wether to call a local engineer ort pay the £90 hotpoint engineer flat rate.

Run the machine empty on High and check whether there is actually any heat. If no heat at all, the safety thermostat will have tripped and a stat set will be required. If you have low heat, there will be a partial element failure (it is a dual circuit one) and the element will have to be replaced.
Power off if you are going to investigate further. :plug:

Thanks for the advice Penguin45, do you mean check the heat coming out of the front of the dryer when running high heat on an empty drum?

As this a condenser dryer, the air venying from the front should be cold. After about a minute, pop the door and check for heat in the drum.

Hi
Just ran the dryer empty on high temp for 10 mins and there is no heat in dryer, so it looks like the thermostat has tripped….. I’ve read your sticky on identifying the part to reset the thermostat, are there any guides on how to locate stat kit in your dryer? (obviously I’d be doing all this when the dryer is all powered down and isolated) or is it better to call out a hotpoint engineer?

Is what you want Paul. They are located under the rear cover. Screwdriver job with power off.
Check filters, door channel and state of condenser matrix for excess fluff and clean accordingly. The other common reason for stat failure is people opening the door halfway through “to see how they’re doing”. Airflow stops, heat shoots up, safety goes ping.

Oh dear just replaced the thermostat and still runs cold. Looking at one of the connectors it look brown and burnt out, cold this be terminal??

Well it could be ‘a terminal’ 🙂 are you the original poster, If no, what is your model No:, what are the symptoms, what thermostat ( there should be two ) did you replace, if the kit was a 1701583 or equivalent you must handle the green spot one with extreme care. Any badly burnt connections should be replaced. Try Repairs@ if you need assistance, please remember to pull the plug first.
It is a TDC32. I replaced the thermostats with the kit outlined in this thread, the order states it was 1 x 1701583 () = £12.95.

That’s the correct kit for your model but they may not have been faulty, although that is the most common problem with no heat.
You need to check the old one’s for continuity to rule that out, as iadom says also, it’s easy to push the convex plate on the green spot one making it useless…

I have a TDC32 and ive noticed that it is no longer kicking out any heat whatsoever. So does this mean the thermostat needs replacing? is it easy to do?

It means they ‘may’ need replacing. The stats and heating element need checking out for continuity before you order or replace anything. If you have access to a meggar or multimeter and the knowledge of how to use it then remove the plug, then the small back panel and test the stats and element first.

i know the stat is a fairly cheap part but how expensive is the elements. Ive got an engineer coming out 2moro so I want an idea of how much the parts are so he doesnt rip me off 😀
