    Hello,

    https://imgur.com/a/pWAR6Zc

I have a 20+ year old Liebherr fridge and the refrigerator compartment stopped working a few weeks ago. A technician that came to take a look told us that it could be the thermostat or the motor that is broken but he couldn’t check the motor if he didn’t first fix the thermostat and unfortunately they couldn’t find any spare thermostats that fit this fridge.

We ended up buying a new fridge and moving this one down in the basement since the freezer still works, but i wanted to take a shot at fixing it myself. Problem is i can’t see an easy way to open the electronics compartment (second image) and so i was wandering if any one had a clue about this specific model, and how i can get it to open up so i can access the thermostat.

Also, another thing, on the third pic you can see on the top part of the refrigerator door hinge, that the screw hole has been eaten away with use and thus, the door leans a bit. One solution is just to change the door so it opens from the other side but i also wanted to ask if anyone knows where i could find a replacement part (if there is one) for the hinge things

    Thanks

He could have wired out the thermostat to test the compressor, which if the freezer is working I suspect it has 2 compressors, unfortunatley I can not open your image, but if you look inside the fridge or the freezer you will find the model and index rating plate attached on the left hand side, you will have to remove salad or freezer drawers to find it, without that I can not help you

Ok managed to open it, the unit was made between 1994-1996 the majority of the parts including the thermostat and hinge pins are no longer available, The fridge stat is a Ranco K59 L1256 part number 6151154, looking at its cut out and cut in temperatures and the sensing phial length of 2250mm you should be able to fit a Ranco VT93 kit thermostat, easily available. Original thermostat coldest off temperature -25c + or -1.0c warmest off temperature -10c + or – 2.0c constant cut in temperature 5.5c.

Thanks a lot for all the info Tony. don’t know if i can get that specific thermostat although i found a few in ebay and amazon, i don’t really care about it fitting inside the cover, i just care that it works. Considering this, don’t you think that i could fit almost any thermostat?

Also, since you opened the images after all, do you have any insight on how to approach opening the top cover?

    Thanks again

The VT93 is available on this site’s shop, it has almost the same temperature range and you need the long sensing phial to fix inside the fridge cooling plate, There are plastic caps by the hole where your hinge pin is, prise those off and the fixing screws are under them, the front facia will then pull forward, be careful as there can be a lack of slack on the wires.
