ParticipantHi, I have problems with my Bush fridge freezer and would be very grateful for some advice.
It is 5 years old and recently has stopped working properly. The freezer part is fine but the fridge is too warm at 15 degrees.
I have cleaned it, made sure the coils on the back are dust free, the seals seem in good order.
I wondered if it was a faulty thermostat but cannot even see how to get the cover off to attempt a fix.
Reading through this forum it may be a compressor fault instead, however it seems to be making all the right noises.
I am at a loss but thought a good idea to ask here before sending it to landfill.
Many thanks.May 15, 2021 at 4:01 pm #476824electrofix
Moderatornot sure how this unit works as i have little info
is it self defrosting ?
you could try a complete defrost, switch off, doors open for 2 days
you say the freezer is ok but it has to be at -18 to be ok so you need to measure it as if its warmer then the food will be dangerous to eat if left too long

ParticipantHi Dave,
thank you so much for replying to my post and so quickly.
It is a Bush frost free (self defrosting) fridge freezer which is less than 5 years old. Recently the freezer part of it has been icing up the fronts of the drawers and even after defrosting the drawers and replacing them the ice appears on the front of them very quickly, within the hour. Last week I removed the drawers again and there was a sheet of ice on the bottom of the freezer.
Along with this the fridge part does not get lower than 15 degrees, despite turning the thermostat to the coldest setting and I have had to bin all the food.
I will try your idea of a complete defrost for 2 days as it is a very sensible place to start which I hadn’t thought of.
Many thanks.May 15, 2021 at 10:04 pm #476826electrofix
Moderatorin this sort of unit they very often take cold air from the freezer to cool the fridge. if the freezer gets iced up it can block the ducts. so the fridge not working is often the first sign of problems
you say its frosting up quickly in the freezer, it could be just because its iced up or a bad door seal so its worth checking that its in contact all the way round

ParticipantThanks Dave,
I will check the door seal more thoroughly (with a piece of paper) and if the ducts are blocked with ice I am hoping that your advice to defrost it over 2 days will unblock them.
I really appreciate your time and good advice.May 21, 2021 at 1:41 pm #476828msclark
ParticipantHi Dave,
I can’t thank you enough, I now have a working fridge freezer! Your advice to defrost it over a few days worked and fingers crossed it’s up and running again. I am so relieved and very grateful for your help. Would you happen to know the most reliable brands of large appliances as this will now be a major consideration in any future purchases. Many thanks.May 21, 2021 at 1:55 pm #476829electrofix
