    Hi,

I hope you can help. I don’t like sending things to landfill. The machine is 3 years old and needs a new door seal and I was about to arrange the repair, unfortunately due to mobility issues I’d be unable to do it myself.

A separate issue is that during the spin cycle it vibrates bad enough to move 4-5 inches and I don’t want to spend the money, if this is symptomatic of a bigger issue. I tested it without any laundry on a spin cycle and It seems fine and does not vibrate to anywhere near the same degree. A video I watched mentioned uneven floor, bearings etc. and suggested removing the back access panel to look for signs, but it looks brand new in there.

Yesterday, I also took a look inside the pump filter and it was covered in a sootish, black substance. Once the residual water had emptied. The small amount of remaining water at the bottom of the cavity was clear, but the same type of sooty black substance looks to have settled at the bottom. This morning I had another look and there’s also brown water in there. Is this indicative of a larger problem?

Hopefully, the attached photos will help. I have tried to upload directly, but I keep getting an error message.

    Many thanks

short answer is I dont know

if the noise is the drum unit then its beyond repair

could be a concrete weight loose and caught early enough its no problem

    Thanks for replying, Dave.

I’ll take a look at the weights and report back.

Should I be concerned about the black substance and rusty looking water in the pump filter cavity (as shown in the photos) or is just general gunge.

    Many thanks

Difficult to be certain what the substance is. Have you ever dyed things in the machine ?

No, it’s just a washing machine.

Apologies, I misread that as dried and not “dyed” thinking it was a washer / dryer. It wasn’t a poor attempt at sarcasm by me. The answer is no, we’ve never dyed anything in the machine.

I’ve also checked the concrete weights and they weren’t loose.

difficult to know what it is without seeing it

assume all transit bolts were taken out when new and all packaging removed ( sometimes they have a polystrene block under the motor and have found a few still there )

what sort of floor is it on as concrete is best, but other types of floor can make machines bounce more and move

I think your bearings are nuked but not in the usual way ( does that make sense? ). What I think has happened is around the bearing / oil seal housing tube it has split its plastic allowing water to get in and the detergent has dissolved the grease and is beginning to rust the bearing. This would give the machine the Jimmy Shakes on spin, a deposit within the machine …if you look closely at the Ist photo you see the grey /white lime which is normal but with a very faint brown tinge. but 2nd photo you can see the grey oilly deposit ( which is not classed as normal ) with a faint brown rust deposit. The 3rd picture gives you a pronounced rusty type deposit. So you have leaping around, a deposit, putting the two things together = something not right there with drum bearings I would not be surprised if the drum is loose….is it?

Ooops! To answer the question. If I`m right ( because I might not be ) the machine is a gonna. The tank unit itiself is about £200.
