ParticipantHi.
Our dishwasher – Bosch SGS46E18GB/73 – wont run a cycle or reset. As soon as I press start the drain pump kicks in, even though there’s no water in it. The ‘Check Water’ light is on, and the pump carries on running even with the door open.
Could this be to do with the float switch in the base and if so how do I check? I presume I’ll have to remove the top and side panels, or can I check via the kick plate.
Cheers

Moderatorits will be flooded in the base of the machine where the motors are
you have to remove covers and mop it out after taking out the plug
if it then does it again your looking for a leak

ParticipantCommon part failures on this model that causes basal water leaks in no particular order. Number noted here refers to the part item ref Bosch`s website part pages these are not part numbers but location numbers. 1) page 4: water bung seal 0458, fairly common problem. Impellor and motor shaft seal kit 0456 – look for severe aluminium oxide deposit on wash motor frame. Pressure chamber 0410 – this gets blocks up and the water backs up and leaks out on fill out the top of the red emergency float. The pressure chamber`s transparent hose to the sump 0415 – very commonly this hose gets blocked up with food debris and on fill the water backs up and leaks out from the pressure chamber. The O ring set 0427 this is not a common problem source of leakage but not unknown. Page 2. lower door seal 0242 – this gets old and deforms, quite common. Page 3 rubber goal post door seal 0331. Page 5 outlet hose 0510. can go brittle and crack where it exits the machine.
Ok these are some pointers common and the not so common. Some of the jobs, especially if you have no experience of these Bosch`s finest can be a bitch to work on. Best bet is to turn power off remove outer white metal fascia panel – that will allow you to see the lower door seal, then remove metal front base cover part 0330 page 3 to see water seal bung, wash motor, and the semi transparent pressure chamber to sump hose . For the other suff you have to remove the w/top and l/h/s panel.
Hope this helps.June 18, 2021 at 6:13 pm #477227BrianT
ParticipantLower door seal is OK, no damage or cracks. Funny thing is, the leak, wherever it’s coming from, carries on flooding into the base even with the power off. So I guess it’s somewhere on the inlet side. Is there a valve or somewthing similar that is meant to shut the incoming water off unless there’s a demand from the machine?

ParticipantI think I’ve found what the problem is. I’d post a picture but can’t figure out how. I only have 2.8 kB available apparently, not enough to upload a photo.

ParticipantAh righto.
Anyway I dried out the base again but left the power off. I was peering inside with the the side panel off but nothing looked amiss. I put the water supply tap to ‘on’ and immediately water started appearing in the base. Then I realised it was coming from a drip under the water inlet conection on the outside, which was dripping onto a plastic flange/shelf beneath, and entering through a seemingly pointless little slot into the base. The slot is perfectly placed to admit the water so that the drip is not apparent unless you get your head on the floor.
I replaced the rubber washer and ran a cycle and it seems to be ok. We’ll see what it’s like in the morning.
Can’t believe it was something so simple.
