I have just brought a new dishwasher and came across 12 place but also 13 place. I went for the Bosch SMS46IW10G which says 13 place. Just wondering if its some marketing trickery or is the inside actually bigger than a 12 place — given that the external measurements are the same.
You would probably need to measure the interior cabinet on 12, 13 and 16 place dishwashers. I expect you would find that the interior sizes vary a little and that the basket slots spacings on larger place machines to be closer together.
According to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, one place setting consists of a large dinner plate, a small snack plate, a saucer, a bowl, a coffee cup, a drinking glass, a knife, two teaspoons, a dinner fork and a small salad fork.

Hmm yes wouldn’t surprise me.
I only ask because in my 22 year old – now to be replaced bosch dish washer I can just about squeeze in my BBQ grill rack and was hoping to be able to also do so in my new one – so I went for a 13 place.
16 place you say 😮 how do they do that in a 600×600 boxwith Bosch dishwasher they give you a little round jet (3inch diameter). you can remove the top basket and lock this jet to deflect the water that normally feeds the top basket. You can then use the full height of the dishwasher for large items

DaveYes I did see that mentioned in the manual that I downloaded and thought it would be handy. But in the manual it had a #1 next to that part and said “selected models only”.
So I will have to wait and see.
