I have owned this fridge freezer for 10yrs or so and it has been working very well… but one thing has annoyed me about it, for ten years. There is an annoying, loud, intrusive (and quite arrogant) beep that sounds if you leave the door open for >1minute. I don’t know about anyone else on the forum, but i often want to open my fridge for longer than that …e.g. just having a rummage around, moving things around, etc. Perhaps i’m just easily ignored but i don’t want it squawking at me every single bloody time. And what is most frustrating is that Miele don’t give the user the option to disable it. The arrogance of thinking their customers are so stupid that they cannot be trusted to close the door to their own fridge that they MUST be alerted to it every time, after 60 seconds.
    It drives me mad.
Has anyone found a way of disabling it? There MUST be a way of exposing the PCB and physically muting (removing?) the piezo buzzer, but i can’t see where it’s hidden… does anyone have any idea?
Thank you so much in advance.
    John

You can press the alarm button when it first goes off after 60 seconds and it will then remain off until you next open the door
It cannot be removed from the control board or a board purchased without an alarm buzzer, as this has been investigated for our customers who need to be inoperative on the sabbath.

Thanks Tony, It is incredibly annoying. Anyone who has the pleasure of sharing my kitchen, within a few hours of being in there, either grumbles or eye rolls at having to reach up and press the ‘off’ button after 1minute. Surely Miele have had complaints about it ? I’m dismayed it didn’t get flagged during product testing. Possibly even more irritating is the actual dysfunctionality of it. The door has to be WIDE OPEN for it sound…yet if it is simply left ajar (surely the precise situation for which the alarm was designed?) the bloody thing doesn’t sound. So for all the daily irritation, it doesn’t even serve its function!
I simply refuse to believe there isn’t a way of removing it…there just has to be.

I understand what you are saying, the doors have to be ajar by more than 2mm for the alarm to operate, the buzzer is soldered in such a way on the circuit board it is not easy to unsolder and remove, possibly damaging the board in the process.

maybe the piezo buzzer could be muted somehow?

This chap is right on the money! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNZ-w5XYVZ8&t=27s. He is as annoyed (or more) than i am at his beeping kettle, and has just the idea i have about ripping out the piezo. The question is – how do i reach the circuit board of the KDN 9713 iD? Where is it hiding and can i get at it without taking the whole fridge out of its setting?

You have to remember the buzzer is also your high temperature alarm in the event the freezer is not freezing correctly, so you would have no audible alarm to alert you.

Fair point. It’s always a trade-off. This thing annoys me daily. (just like the bloke in the YouTube clip with his kettle).
I can’t find a way to the PCB though… do you know where it sits?

Remove the covers on the display at both ends by prising them off, using a flat head screwdriver, the control board is held in place by some plastic clips again with a flat head screw driver ease the clips to the side and draw out the control board.
