Hi,
Why is it that my whitegoods are all going wrong???
FridgeFreezer last month, Tumble Dryer last week (new belt in and fitted btw, thanks for the help) and now the flipping washing machine is leaking. Aaaaarrrgggghhhh!!!!
Anyway, it’s an LG WM-1285FHD and it seems to be leaking from underneath somewhere.
Could anyone give me a clue as to what to look at to diagnose it please?
Failing that, I can’t find my insurance information for the washing machine, is there anyway of finding out if it is still in warranty?

the most common cause for your machine to be leaking is ( i presume its from the bottom left )
the soap dispensor requires changing,these models had a common fault that after approx 6-12 months the dispensor failed causing them to leak during their rinse cycle.
also the dispensor hose had a habit of rubbing on the outer tank causing it to leak whilst filling,or the other possibility is that the door seal has a split in it.
all these parts i have in stock if required

Your lg will have a 2 year manufacturer warrenty from LG. You will have to find your purchase receipt to prove that.
Depending on what retailer you used to purchase you may have 5 year parts and labour cover, in which case a certificate was issued to you by LG, again you will need to find this to prove the existance.
Failing this you could phone LG and ask them top check their records.
LG dispensors leak on the hot fill cycle of whatever wash you are doing, the left hand leading edge of the dispensor lid is reponsible and its possible to stop the leak by sealing with silicon the holes from front to back(the first 5) on the extreme left of the dispensor top. They distort with the heat of the water and the direction of the water overlaps the left hand edge of the draw.

OK, thanks for the answers guys. I have checked the door seal already and that looks ok.
To check the hose from the soap dispenser I take it that I just need to whip the lid off and have a look? (with power off obviously!)
If I eliminate those two fairly easily then it is most likely the soap dispenser? (Yes, the leak is from the left hand side)
Is it the drawer that I fill with soap that needs to be replaced or the structure behind it?

Yes, once eleminated the dispenser will need replacing.

LG leaky drawers
At home we have an LG WM-1290FHB (purchased on 18-Feb-2003) and it sounds like we have the same problem. We first noticed there would sometimes be a small puddle of water on the floor by the left-hand side of the machine. Then it became quite clear the water was dripping down the face of the machine from the bottom of the drawer almost as soon as the machine was started.
So if I’m following this thread correctly, I could either try to fix the leak by sealing up some of the holes, or simply order a new drawer?
What are my chances of getting the drawer free from LG, since it sounds like this is a known design defect in the machine? (My other half called them earlier today and was passed from pillar to post without any success.)

LG already do 2 year guarantee period which you are now out of, I’d say you should try sealing the holes and see how you get on. Its easy to do, cheap and does work.
The leak is hot water which does not start to enter the appliance until approx 15seconds after the cold water starts.

Having returned home, I pulled out the drawer on our LG WM-1290FHB to find the part number 4870ER1002, stamped on the bottom, which isn’t the same as the one which Dave Conway quoted earlier for the WM-1285FHD machine.
However, this drawer also has five holes that face front (just behind and parallel to the drawer’s front) and four holes that face down. I shall attempt to seal the five front-facing holes tomorrow, and if that fails, I’ll seal up the rest! (And failing that I’ll be ordering a new drawer!) I’ll let you know what happens…

i wouldnt seal all the holes as this will cause a bigger problem with not taking the powder and conditioner away.

Excellent. Solved my problem too. Little bit of silicone sealant around the front few holes to seal them off. Excellent advice. Mine was a WM-1280FHD but the same problem I suppose.
Btw, I was told by LG they have none of their own engineers and I had to use JTM Contracts who turn out to be the worst company I have come across in years: they took my money, passed the job to some other company, who took two weeks to turn up, mislead me about the work, spent another few weeks waiting for a spare part, then refused to do the work or refund my money. Steer clear of JTM Contracts or their alter ego 0800 repairs. Awful, the lot of them.
