Changing simmerstat was fine , and it looks identical to original stat, but result was no change. Ring still operates at full power when turned on to a low level. Very disappointing for the lady who owns cooker as she will not be changing cooker. Have I missed something or made a false assumption about it being ONLY controlled by each simmerstat as there is no control board of any kind. Could a new simmerstat be faulty out of the box. Is there a fault possible in ring element that could damage a new stat in some way to make it faulty , given that the ring elements work fine but only on full power.
Appreciate any advice to help in this matter. MJMits an energy regulator problem
its either the wrong one or you have connected it wrong
or as you say faulty

It appears to match the one on Belling’s spares site (SImmerstat), so as you say it’s either faulty or wired incorrectly.
correct
check the wiring live and neutral are normally p1 and p2
if there are other simmerstats in the cooker look at the wiring colours going to each terminal to see if it looks correct
take pics of everything before you start in case you get muddled

Many thanks guys . I have verified it is the exact same Invensys simmerstat based on the manufacturer print on rear of stat as the original and the connections match. I have also verified wiring connections based on photo taken prior and also by comparing with other stats on cooker. So I for now am concluding that the stat is faulty. What I will do is purchase another simmerstat and use on 2nd faulty ring. See if that works and depending on those results swap them over. That will confirm faulty status of stat number 1.
Really very much appreciate the help and advice. MJMFinal Update : Installed a new local supplier Simerstat on 2nd ring, and that fixed it fine. I then swapped suspect first new simmerstat and ring was no longer working. So 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} a faulty new simmerstat. I purchased a 3rd simmerstat and replaced faulty one and now all rings are working perfectly. My thanks for your support and advice which reassured me when I could not understand why the initial installed simmerstat failed to resolve ring power problem. Thank you on behalf of the lady who owns the cooker who is most pleased .. ( note now being drafted to Amazon supplier re faulty product ! ) MJM
