ParticipantFirst post so please be patient…
Having bought a replacement seal and watched a number of how to you tube videos on how to change it, I set about doing so.
As far as I can tell I successfully changed the seal, seating it all the way round on the inner and outer lips and reapplying both the metal wire/springs to secure the seal in place.Having put it all back together it now makes a double beep when you press the start button on any wash program. The door makes the right click when it shuts and I’ve checked the child lock is not turned on.
I’ve been trawling the web trying to find answers but drawn a blank, so here I am.I’ll try to describe what I think might be the cause of the problem:
A) When I took the front of the machine off to change the seal, a dark grey connector with three grey wires (down the right hand side from the circuit board above) disconnected itself from the other half of the connector attached to the door lock. To my surprise (and disbelief) I noticed that the three wires are not soldered in but are just slid into holes in the connector and loose. The half of the connector in the door lock has metal ‘teeth’ that appear to be designed to slice the outer wire, making a connection to the internal metal wire. I tried my best to avoid it but the loose plastic connector came off the three wires when trying to re-attach the two halves of the connectors and re-fit the front of the machine. I did my best to make sure the three unmarked grey wires went back into the same three holes on the connector but I would not stake anything on it. I squeezed the two halves of the connectors by hand as well as I could and re-attached it to the door lock.
B) A black thin piece of plastic, roughly 20cm long, with a loop on each end also disconnected itself when I took the front of the machine off, one end attaches to the door lock on a shaped ‘hook’, the other end I can’t work out what it should attach to. It’s something down in the bottom right corner by the drainage hose but I can’t figure it out.I suspect that the machine doesn’t think the door is shut properly due to either A or B above, or maybe even both, therefore it won’t let the wash program start but I don’t know how to sort it. Help please!

Moderatoryes i would say you need a new cable
the wires are connected using a system called “insulation displacement”. You have to be certain you are getting the wires bach correctly
the other plastic peice is the manual door release. one end hooks on the lock the other end site in a slot in the filter housing. look in you owners book it will show you a pic of how to open door
please give me the rest of the enr number as there are 2 more numbers after a /

ParticipantHi Dave
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it. WAQ243D1GB/09 is the full enr number.
I’ve got a number of questions I’m afraid:
- In your opinion it’s the wires/connection that’s the problem and I’ll need a new cable. Do you happen to know the cable I’ll need or maybe add a link to where I can buy one?
- Will the new cable have the same insulation displacement connector? To my mind the type of connector seems to be a terrible design/decision since the three small cables are loose until the metal knives on the other half of the connector cuts through the insulation.
- Is there a tool needed to squeeze the two halves of the insulation displacement connector together with enough pressure to slice through the insulation? I did this by hand and maybe I didn’t apply sufficient pressure to cut through?
- If I can apply sufficient pressure to the existing connector, maybe it will make the right connections and I won’t need a new cable?
- How important is it that the three grey wires are in the right holes of the insulation displacement connector?
Many thanks for your help on this. Having the washing machine out of action, with a family, is a cause for concern.
Best

Moderatorthis should be the correct cable
https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/00631057At about £8 poss plus carriage its not worth getting the wires in the wrong place on the old one
yes its important the wires go back in the correct place, get it wrong and you may damage the board
yes the new wire will use same connectors and so does a lot of other manufacturers as it makes production cheaper. when i strip machines i know that wire is going to be there so i disconnect it to prevent damage
if you need it the complete breakdown here https://www.bosch-home.co.uk/supportdetail/product/WAQ243D1GB/09#/Tabs=section-spareparts/Dave

ParticipantOnce again thank you for your help on this. I’ll get the new cable ordered right now.
Not one of the door seal changing you tube videos I watched had any mention of this potential pitfall. Lesson learned…September 15, 2021 at 1:56 pm #478799blewco
ParticipantHi Dave,
The replacement cable took over a week from the date ordered to be dispatched by Bosch but it eventually arrived. It was the right cable and after fitting it, our washing machine is back in action. The replacement door seal I fitted is not leaking so everyone is happy now!
Thanks again
