KeymasterNext one.
If we want a reasonable democratic council thing in place, i.e. the people that steer the ship to a huge degree, then we need people’s names that are willing to get involved.
Then we need to poll for votes.
From that we then get them to do all the work! 😆
Seriously, after that then there’s not that much left to do to get the show on the road.
So… volunteers please. 😉

Well if you really get stuck, I’ll give it a go. 🙂 I take it that the steering committee is restricted to Subs then?

Do also bear in mind that those 12 good people will, as part of their voluntary commitment, be expected to take time out to travel the length and breadth of the UK. Meeting manufacturers, Wp’s, Insurance companies, giving the DTI and MMC some stick in London and possibly even organising and attending regional get togethers on many and varied subjects. Certainly not a task to voluteer too lightly and NOT a job that can be dealt with just sitting at your PC typing emails, no sir!
The mountain will not come to Mohammed and if a new TA has to be seen to be different and actually show results, then get off your arses, no bullshit- p-i-s-s-up meetings up the pub, 6 monthly get togethers (like other ‘nameless TA’s of yesteryear did) and do something!!!
Still up for it? Good job……. then sign your name below…… 😀

I just hope you know what you’re letting yourselves in for. 😆

Jim it’d be a sad day when people like you feel that such an association would have to be stuck to ask for your council. And, that pretty much goes for most of the people in here I know I’m happy to say.
I can only advise, I can’t dictate policy nor do I want to. But my gut feeling says that yes, it should be restricted to the subs for the moment. On the other hand, I also don’t think that it is wise to exclude others from possibly taking part and it may be construed as being a “club”, so there’s a quandary.
There is a huge wealth of talent on UKW and a lot of it would likely be vary welcome although how it is approached is not solely my decision to make.
My approach would be to tell people what we’re doing and how and, that if they wish to participate then they should let us know although you then have the next hurdle of, do you insist that people sign up? Personally I think that they should, it’s not as if it’s cost-prohibitive.
But then I’d also go for open voting, that is to say that any UKW member can vote on the issues so that we get as broad an opinion as possible and hopefully other people involved in the community.
Sorry, just kicking ideas around feel free to tell me to shut it. 😉

As we are kicking ideas about ,how about creating task forces for specific projects ,co-opting outside of the council if needs be .i.e Corgi, Weee ,training ,Spares ,contracts etc
Basically playing to our strengths ,Ahter all most constitutions state that the council can delegate as much or as little of the tasks out as they see fit.
I like the idea of any UKW member having a right to vote .
The whole arena of affiliates needs to be sorted ,I have no problem with allowing them membership but not on to the council and no voting rights .

Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that this initial body of men and possibly women is to be a steering committee to oversee the inception of a TA. It is not for the setting up of the actual TA’s controlling body or officers ATM.Jim.

Well, the 12 Good Men is reference to a jury of peers not a literal. 😉
My understanding was that this would from the initial group, whatever you wish to label it. Unless you guys think it’s better to do it otherwise.

If its ok to nominate People, then I would like to suggest John Mac and Carl Robinson if they would accept a nomination because they have also already proved themselves excellent advisers on numerous occasions.

Oh if we’re nominating, in no particular order…
- Mark Garner
Philip Dill
John Mac
Kev Morrissey (Uncle Albert)
Adrian Welkes
Bryan Williams (Del Boy)
Jim Banks (IADOM)
Chris Chantrell (Damn penguin)
Lawrence Carey
Martin Russell (PITA)
Barry Munro
Steve (Aqua Electric)
Sean Delaney (Another PITA)
I’m sure there’s more to add to that list as it’s not exhaustive, but that’s enough to be going on with for now. And you’ll be pleased to see I managed more that 12 off the top of my head. 😉
From those names and, doubtless some others too, you will form a very good team with a breadth of experience and opinion, of that I’ve no doubt.
