ParticipantI was called to a bendix washer today, and the lady said at the door..”you wont have seen one of these before”…oh yeah,.. I thought as I followed her into the kitchen…then I clapped eyes on the bendix that was banging on spin…”the man who looked after it for the last 40 years, died last year” she said.. I couldn’t believe it, the washer was older than me, and had a suspension leg that had worked loose, so I did the job and took a few pictures of the washer,..”do you think I need a new one” she asked and I told her that if she went in for a new washer, she wouldn’t be getting 45 yeras out of it!…and the thing looks brand new.
A 45 year old washer..thats a record for me.
I have some pictures but cannot seem to find an attach file button.

Paul I would be interested in seeing the photos of the old Bendix, as they were the first washing machines I worked on 35years ago
Cheers

I don’t think you can post a photo direct but if you upload it into the photo gallery section you can then include it with your message by clicking on Img, pasting in the URL then clicking on Close Tags.

washtec,
You can always use a web hosting site like this one to add photo’s to any of your postings:
Hit the “Browse” button to find the photo on your hard drive, then hit “Host It”, then copy the “Thumbnail URL address” and paste it with your post onto UKW………..
…easy! 😀

That’s just what the boss said. 😆 The Bendix LT was a washer/dryer, where that’s just a washer.

I’m amazed at the lack of grease put in bearings these days and believe that is one of the reasons for early failure.
It would be interesting to have a metalurgist compare the old and new bearings to see what other tricks are used to cause early failureJuly 7, 2005 at 12:29 pm #140663washtec

ParticipantOut of curiosity, I telephoned the customer, and asked her for the model and serial number.
MODEL: GR
SERIAL No: 00251961I am assuming that the 1961 is the manufacture date.

Cheeky young pup Mr Washtec!
I will have you know that old washing machine repairmen never die……
…..they just expire due to obsolescence or being BER :rotl:
