    Interesting point. MikeM made a point (I think…) that the beauty of the digital control system was that you could run a machine down the production line that much faster because you didnt have to pay someone to stick on 80 odd wires – couple of edge connectors and that’s it – thereby reducing time and human involvement. The technology bit’s actually rubbish – it’s about savings in production costs.

    Late, feeling cynical. But, probably right 😕

    Also a fair point and Mike is entirely correct, I wouldn’t argue with him on that at all (or much else), but in essence there’s little wrong with electronics as opposed to a mechanical solution really. In some ways, such as above, there are definitive advantages, but you can get a cr4p mechanical system just the same as you can have a cr4p electronic one too.

    It comes down to how much you want to make it good and last IMO as well as, do you want to over or under-engineer the components. After that, it’s simply a cost debate.
