As you suggest it does not work for you, for us it suits our customers which is what we require, enjoy your late calls Mark. 8)

IMO Mark it purely comes down to costs, if you can do it and sustain it fine. But the home counties and London are a a lot richer than Sheffield or Glasgow plus each area has it’s own little quirks and that’s what really gets my goat when some muppet tries to install a global network policy as they rarely work across the board.
I could not offer a service like that based on my current situation, I’d have a revolt from the guys and, even if they did agree to it, they’d be looking for shift allowances and/or renumeration to offset the unsociable hours. It’s hard enough to get them to work a Saturday! Bear in mind that if you agree to do this on a contract basis you also have to cover the holidays as well, which believe me, ain’t so easy. Then there’s the mad Xmas rush when the guys are overloaded anyway and you ask them to do an after 6, I suspect I know where I’d be asked to insert that job sheet in Xmas week. 😕
Historically this is due to builders in particular and retailers as they are either not there or don’t want you there out of hours or at the weekend. And, as I have said many times before, doing Saturday work (which I also consider to be out of hours) invariably leads to a 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase in no-access calls for me, at my expense.
All the above is hard to work out and place a value on and, in the end, it comes down to individual businesses being able to do it or not, justify it or not and make a buck out it.

If I had another engineer I would have enough time NOT to do evening calls…………..
I do them purely to keep up with the volume of work. Bear in mind that once you refuse a chargeable customer a call, you never get them back.

In fact that kind of sums it up really in a nutshell 😉
On the one hand we have a guy that has little enough work coming in during the day that has to take on evening calls in order to make ends meet. Another that is so full of work and will not say no to evening work as well as (that guy must be earning a fortune by the way).
Another that cannot or even dare not lest his staff revolt at the idea of late night working. And finally yet another who bases his work schedule on Tesco’s opening hours…………!!!
Brilliant topic (and on a Sunday too) when we should all be in church thanking the ‘Heavenly Father’ for his bounteous goods…. :rotfl:
Let us pray…..!!!

As for me I start my first call at 6am sometimes earlier and most customers like it and 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} understand why I start at that time the other 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are normally unemployed or ethnic who dont want to get out of bed and dont work.
As for after 6pm and weekend calls theve got no chance its mon – fri only.
We do have a life( now and again ).

I dont believe any of us here work set hours anyway, we just get on with it until all the booked calls are done. ( I assume that no one knocks off at 5 or whatever leaving customers with bookings waiting). In my case, that will usually take me till after 6 anyway so why not book the call as after 6 and earn more from it rather than (a) having that same customer who has waited in all day complaining that they could have gone to work and been home by now anyway. or (b)assumed you have knocked off at 5 and themselves given up and gone out, probably to Comet.
I also remember when E jobs was being set up that we were trying to attract the “young/middle aged proffessional” customer who is willing to pay for a good reliable service. Are we expecting them to stay at home waiting for us?
Unjustly maybe, this trade has a bad reputation for letting people down by missing appointments etc and that is forefront in customers minds. We now have to offer 3 hour windows for all chargeable appointments in addition to the f/c, A5’s etc.Enjoy your early night Kev 😉

This is all very well, however I can’t see myself being intact at 65 (my chiropractor loves me….) – SO – how much work can I do? 6 days, 5 evenings and Sundays are mine. With a bit of luck I have SOME time for the kids and I’ll be done by the time I’m 55. 10 years to go…….
Anyway, Simon46 has been working on a Sunday 😯 , so I’ll just get on with it my way.

It suits me. I am in the middle of doing up house and drop one toolbox to pick up another when the phone rings. Also have just moved county to be nearer to family so am starting again business wise. So i am quiet until the word of mouth machine gets fully operational. I have to grab everything that comes my way or someone else will or customer makes trip to comet. When established (again) this will change.
Regards
