    Re: Air Sled

Well I bit the bullet and ordered two of these from the sunny USA and am not dissapointed. Tried mine first on my own Whirlpool side by side, mine’s is the ARG488 which is the biggest of the original American ones and it moved it with ease even though it was full. Went to a customer today with a Mercury 1200 beastie which is in a new kitchen with a brand new solid oak floor, and once again it pulled it out easily.,

The lady was about 5 ft tall and 8 stone if she was just fed and was impressed so i told her to push it back in with 1 finger which she did.

I spoke to Airsled before ordering and they said that there was not a UK importer but I could order direct, total cost for 2 of them was £980 including shipping.

All you do is slide the two ski’s under the appliance and connect the hoses to the air pump, it takes about 2 minutes to set up. The bonus is that you can also use it to vac out the car as it has a vacuum cleaner built in 😆

some big bullet then, took 6 years to bite through! When you say slide under the appliance….do you mean under the feet or just anywhere?

Had to be sure Mark…. :rotfl:

I had a customer last month who said i damaged her floor pulling out a Rangemaster 110, luckily I had taken a picture of the floor beforehand due to the marks on it so I proved it wasn’t me. This got me looking at the Airsled again. I didn’t do it before because I thought it would be a lot of hassle importing the kit but I paid over the phone and had them 4 days later.

All you do is slide the ski’s under the appliance and position them to the left and right next to the feet then switch the pump on and it lifts the appliance instantly.

The company made sure that the pump was UK spec and had a 3 pin plug on the pump which I had to cut off as they only had about 200mm of mains cable on them. I stuck on a 4 mtr lead so that it would be easier to use.

It looks a handy piece of kit, but a bit late, most US fridges came with wheels and move very easily, the old range cookers where built very heavy and sat close to the floor, so this would be perfect, but those cookers rarely broke down also not that many out there to justify paying for this kit. Most ranges now are much higher off the ground with poor quality plastic legs and are not difficult to move.

If you do struggle to move stuff and want to pay that money, go ahead, personally I don’t think many people would buy them, it reminds me of the Kirby Vacs, good cleaners, but over priced, not really providing a noticeable performance vs price difference and sold by dodgy car style dealers.

What if you deliver a lot of new foodcentres such as the liebherr and siemens units? Smeg ranges? Fit kitchens? I see it as a useful tool to have, like many tools in my tool box and van that i dont use every day.

Rollers are fine on a perfect floor but how many perfect floors do we find under appliances? Most floor damage is not done by the appliance but the crap that has ended up underneath it over the years (broken glass especially) if this lifts the appliance then that hopefully will be left behind.

    Re: Air Sled

There are two companies in the UK that supply these but they were quoting about £650 each, a lot cheaper going direct.

This kit might not be ideal for some but for me about 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my work is on Fisher & Paykel and Rangemaster appliances and there is only one model in the F&P range that has the 4″ legs on it.

The job I did on the Mercury range the other day had a brand new oak floor just fitted and as usual had a 3ft gas hose on the back. So to get this out you need to pull it forward and then twist it at an angle to get to the hose which makes it so easy to damage the floor with the wheels.

As Mark said on the older ranges you get crap below the wheels so dragging it out can be a minefield and on a lot of them the back wheels have seized.

Hey relax, I stated its a handy piece of kit if you need it, but for me it appears a lot of money and time wasted, another solution to a small issue, with a rather hefty price tag, especially if it only last a couple of yrs.

I’m happy with my slide board and have had no issues with floor damage.

Most companies with 2 man crews use sling belts for range cookers and US fridges, no real lifting involving the hands. I doubt these air cushions would get an appliance from the vehicle, down steps, across pathways. 😉

    There use it limited.

Could one re-enact a scene from Back to the Future, that might be fun, having them strapped under your feet, flying free across the kitchen. :rotfl:

i would imagine it would help to prevent back injury as well ,

50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of range cookers i go to are good half inch below floor level – where customer have just floored up to the front of the cooker – these are the worst.
