Does anyone know a good software that I can use for jobs logging, tracking, keeping records etc

The one I use is not very great and it is general not specific to over trade.
    Custom built applications are expensive

We’ve been looking at this for over two years trying to sort out the mess and it is a mess. You’re spot on in that the custom solutions are too expensive for this industry.

Bear with me for a couple of weeks as I hope to have news as the people that were developing ours seem to have stalled a little. I’ll explain that when all becomes clearer.

Had to edit your post, you put a , after .com which rendered the URL useless. 😉

Just what do you call, ‘affordable’ ❓

    i use lotus approach database…

you can basicaly do any thing you want with it…
ie create feilds that you want , you can add to it at a later date,
and you can search any field or info you want….
you can also create as many worksheets, and forms as you like…
work sheets lets you see all your customers in a linear form…
you can then pick out a particular customer and change the view to a invoice, parts order or any form you like…

very easy to set up…and just as easy to add to it as you req..

Service Base is the one to go for it does every thing you need call logging spares, invoicing . I don,t know why everyone is not using it it reasonably priced and very easy to use you can look up jobs by Invoice number, address, post code, model number, job number, telephone number.
    what more would you want.
    I use the lite version

Re: Any good software for Jobs

So here’s the problem, to dumb it right down…

It talks to NESN, nothing else. This is useless to me as I don’t work for NESN anymore.

You have to buy extra packs to get the bells and whistles.

    There’s no mobile solution attached.

There’s no note of what dbase system it uses, nor the platform it’s based upon.

I’d be happy to look at it but, from the info given on the site, it’s not a front runner IMO, there’s better out there in terms of feature set. I wouldn’t doubt that it’s good, but it does look a bit basic to me.

Re: Any good software for Jobs

Dont knock Servis Base unless youve seen it in action its difficult to descibe how good it is you need to see it work its super fast on searches you can just input a postcode to log calls alltough that does cost extra but if youre doing good business it will pay fir itself in no time . If your ever in my neck of the woods (brum) come and have a look.
I have read a lot on this site about looking for good software its allready available and has been for years.

Re: Any good software for Jobs

I’m not knocking it at all, I’m saying it doesn’t do what I want it to do. There is a difference. 😉

I have used a program called Visual Call Manager, designed circa 1985, that did all that. Before that I used the old Zanussi system from Frank Gresham which did that even before then, it’s not an advancement.

It may look prettier and, if you’ve never used anything like that before or don’t use software at all, then yes it will seem great. But there’s scores of software that can do much the same as I can see from the info on the Service Base website.

    Jim,
I cant remember exactly, but its about £500. The support is FANTASTIC, any time I have a query, I pick up the phone and within a couple of mins….. sorted 🙂 .

For me, It is the best (and I did look at others when I was looking to buy), and like I said… I couldnt be without it and I have NO reason/need to look around for others to change.

PS… If you speak to Neil, you get a 30/60 or 90Day FREE FULL VERSION trial 😀

Re: Any good software for Jobs

If anyone would like a Demo of ServiceBase they can click on the link below to download it. It is a fully featured copy which will time out at the end of March. There are about 20 jobs in the demo copy so you have something to work with but the diary appointments attached to them are a bit out of date.

    http://www.pccontrolsystems.com/1477/sbdemo310307.exe

ServiceBase has been designed for any type of repair centre and most of the features in the program have been suggested to us by existing customers. We also have repair centres up and down the country that may be willing to demonstrate the program or I can offer a demonstration at our site in Northampton.

If you have any questions please contact me on 01604 609225.

    Kind regards

    Neil

Re: Any good software for Jobs

I’ve just tried the installation again on Vista and it has installed fine. Try downloading the file again as there could have been some corruption during the download.

From my previous post I forgot to mention the default password for the program. When asked just enter “xxx”.

Re: Any good software for Jobs

    Hello All And Neil,

We have had the DASS System (Portsmouth Based company that ran on Concurrent Dos using Wyse Serial Terminals), The Frank Gresham System (waste of time) and are Now plodding along on the Old DOS Based ServiceBase (Sadly No Longer Supported by PC Controls) that we like. However, times change and we need to move on.

I have seen The system that GBDAR & Baumatic use (fixzones Corporate package version) However as PC Controls have always remained fairly reliable/stable we shall probably move to ServiceBase 2000.

    Hope this Helps

    Trev

PS Neil Can we have a little DOS Support in the meantime?
