Oh Mike, respect fella for going to all that trouble for such little return and before you get home your customer is back on the phone with more probs. 😥

Now your stuck twixt a rock and a hard place having copped just £90 for all that effort…..darned if you do, danged if you don’t. Speaking personally I’d rather be danged and say no. Otherwise that ‘learning curve’ takes a nasty turn down a black hole.

Actually, I should look on the bright side, (as I hang here on my cross . )
I can easily afford to just jack this one in, keep £20 for the call out charge, send back the re-con board (after returning to extract it 🙁 that’s the PITA)) and call it a day. What really bugs me is that I’ve been “outwitted” by a washing machine that’s determined to go to the scrapper; and the customer will be one more who will be too embarassed to want to put any poor soul through this sort of hassle again and may become one of that growing band who will never call a repairer again.
(And just in case anyone mentions ISE, yes ISE could answer some of these issues, but in this case the customer will probably just buy another cheapie because they only use the property for a few months a year.)

For machines less than 5 years old it would be cheaper for the customer to pay Hotpoint £104 than pay you £130 though.

Not many end up only paying £104 they usualy get pressurised into paying£160 which includes a years service contract, and a couple of boxes of descaler at £24 it works out at about a £185 before they know whats hit them.

    Re: ARISTON AWD12 FILLING.

Well, it’s a bit too early to say yet for sure but this story may have a happy ending. Sunday morning I had a very detailed look at the old board. What I found was some easily missed corrosion (green copper compound) on a couple of the triacs, although they all tested OK. There was also some around various links and a diode. So I hoiked out all five of Q7 to Q10 (Z0607’s) and replaced them with the MAC97A8’s I had bought. I also gave the whole board a good scrub with a soft brass brush. On one or two of the extracted triacs there was visibly a bridge of green stuff between the gate and middle legs. Maybe at 240v this would be enough to leak across to the gate and provide a trigger to the triac. I think this has been caused by condensation, rather than a leak as the dryer ducting showed no sign of leakage.
So that board is now back in the machine and survived multiple test / re-set sequences this afternoon. I’ve got the phone’s ringer turned off just in case though 😆 .

Hey man! Yes you! Mike the bike!….I have to say, you are some smart cookie!…persistent almost to the point of paranoia. You must have tossed and turned all bl**dy night long over this problem, and don’t try to deny it either!

    As I said before…..RESPECT!

    Thankyou Martin. 😀
I won’t be celebrating till it’s had about a fortnight though, based on previous experience.
Gotta go now. There’s some bloke at the door with what sounds like a Nottingham accent shouting merry murder 😆 .
    Mike.
