Continuity between the heater connections is 49ohm. (seems ok) When running, BOTH measure 240V AC. That makes me think that no current is flowing. Is it controlled through the earth?
What is the thing that I have removed? A temperature. sensor? There is 5V DC across it when running.
I just doesn’t get hot. What could this be? Is there a reset switch?A really odd thing ……. If there is power to the machine but I switch it off, There is still 220 volts on the hearer conections.

Well For A Start There Shouldn’t Be Any Voltage To The Machine When It’s Off Or I Would Be Dead By Now The Amount Of Times I Have Worked On These Type Of Machines.
But By The Sounds Of It You Are Going To Have To Check Your Socket On The Wall For That.
With Reference To The Temperature Sensor And The Loss Of Heat It Might Be Worth When There Is Definately No Power To The Machine Taking The Heater Box And Motor Complete Off And Taking The Heater Out And Clearing The Box Out And Checking The Heater For At Least 25 Ohms.
If That Is OK Then You Are Going To Need To Change The Thermostat.
Anymore Problems Post To Us Again.
But Here Is Part Info For What You Might Need……
Heater = C00080765
Temperature Sensor = C00080767February 25, 2005 at 8:27 am #127017Simon46

First dont just switch off, remove the plug! If house wiring is reversed live and neutral The results could be fatal! I suspect your drier has blown a thermal fuse. This will have happened for a reason. The heater relay on the board could be faulty, the fan may not be turning or there may be a blockage. Best get an engineer to check it. Please feel free to click on the red toolbox on the home page.

Chill out Simon. Yes obviously I know enough to disconect from the mains before I work on it, but I need to run it with the covers off to measure it. I was talking rubbish about the residual main voltage. I would still see neuteral even with the machine switched off. (2AM!)
THe things I have established;
The mains is good. I hae lived there for 15 years.
The element is good 240V/49ohms = 4.89Amps
The fan runs and there is plenty of air flow.
The problem is that the heater is not being switched on.So Either, there is a disconnected/broken wire, or the relay is not switching, or the temperature sensor is faulty.
I am inclined to think that it is the sensor. And for £5 its easy to swap out.
I suspect your drier has blown a thermal fuse
Do you MEAN fuse? The part number that Appctr was talking about is a thermistor. Is there a fuse somewhere else?
Does the control board regulate temperature intellegently? or is it simply a case of the sensor controlling the relay?Where can I buy that part online?

The thermal fuse will probly be open circuit but there may be a reason it has gone maybe a blockage someware?
The thermal cut-out is located on the cable inside the yellow sheath it’s nearly waving at you in the photo!part no C00080775 email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you want one – there may be a delay as the site admin are on the beer this weekend!
Remember plug out first :zap:Clyde 8)

Ah! Beware of things hidden in plain view!
Yes it IS blown. Leave the guys to their beer. There are suppliers up here. I’ll sort something. How the hell do you clean the fluff out?? There is no acess panel. I thought about flushing it back down into the drum with a hose but that’s a pants thing to do to it.

The lint has to be cleaned from thr fan blades, heater duct and condensor housing. Stripdown is the only proper way of doing it.

All done and it works a treat. Thanks for your help. I can’t believe they designed it without a resettable fuse. I can’t believe they designed it without a removable filter.
I can believe that you guys need to justify the knowledge that you gained by charging more for parts. People don’t like paying for “intangables”. Dealer price for the fuse -£14.95.
Maplins price for the same fuse but without the wires – £0.49December 26, 2005 at 6:10 pm #127023clive45

Hi
picked up on this very useful site after our AWD12 did exactly the same today. Had a bit of an advantage because it did it before about 18 months ago. Still had the engineers bill which said he replaced the thermal fuse, but did not know what/where it was hiding.
Photo above made it all very easy!March 11, 2009 at 1:22 pm #127024shoobydoo

Hello,
Need some help please. The dryer is not heating up. The machine goes through a wash cycle completely (but I do not know how to tell if the water is heating up or not) and then goes onto the dryer cycle. It makes all the same noises (pumping of water, fan is running I think) and the clothes aren’t any wetter than expected. The machine door remains cool to touch whereas before it used to get warm. This is a sudden change, not gradual. No flashing LED error or selector switch going round and round. If left to itself, it will complete the drying cycle as scheduled.
Have discovered a lot of information on the internet, and have taken the top off (machine unplugged) but without a picture pointing out what each part is, I am at a loss! This topic had a picture at some point, but it is not coming up.
There is something thin covered in a yellow sheath… is this the temperature sensor? Big concrete looking thing to top left labelled Vibro – no idea. Under sheath, big metal thing, shaped like a P – any ideas?
I would be grateful if anyone could tell how to fix the machine, and also send me a picture of what each part is I am looking at!
Thank you.

Mine was the thermal fuse, which if memory serves is what was shown in the photo. It is in the sheath – that covers it and it’s push connections to keep them safe.
If that is what is your problem (and ours went twice) you can get them at Maplins for about 40p, so worth a try. You need to take the old one with you as it has a number on it which they should be able to match up as it tells the shop the resitance of the fuse.
The concrete is a balance weight so leave it alone. P shaped piece could be part of the blower – that may have a lot of lint in it that might need cleaning out (which if the fuse has gone could be the cause of it overheating and blowing the fuse in the first place) You can take that apart if you are up to it – it ain’t difficult just need socket set and screwdrivers and a little time and patience.I’d need to take the top off mine to recall it all again.
good luck

Just a quick advisory to the above, for the benefit of future readers.
The markings on the fuse are NOT it’s resistance….(it’s a fuse! )
It is important to ensure the TEMPERATURE rating and CURRENT capacity are correct for the application intended.
thermal fuses MUST be crimped or screwed into circuit- soldering is not an option as it will likely weaken or melt the fuse…(hint:- Thermal= heat-sensitive) 🙂March 16, 2009 at 6:57 pm #127027clive45

Whoops – sorry for the mistake(s) there. I’m not an electrician and it was some time since I repaired mine…………

Well, I changed the whole thermal cut out cable because I could not “uncrimp” the ends of the fuse!
BUT, it still doesn’t heat up.
Any ideas on what else might be wrong?
Desperately need the drier as have little munchkins in the house, so clothes are being washed all day long.
Please help!
