They use robots, this current waver are using apparently very sophisticated ones, which are basically programs that go out and do it all automatically.
As soon as we see them they get deleted but none of us can be on 24/7 I’m afraid.

Participantdo members of the public have the code of numbers /letters that have to be entered on logging in ? I’m sure this would stop the robots finding their way in here .

If I log in from the home page I don’t have to do the numbers check. I’ve often wondered why that was. Maybe that’s a factor?

Basically…
The bots get around the code by exploits in the system. Without a re-write (many thousands of pounds) it’s difficult to counter.
Worse is the fact that there are a lot of people employed to do it manually now and that’s very, very difficult to defend against automatically.
The problem is that spam is BIG money these days, often stemming from organised crime so there’s loads of poor people that have the time to do it and will work for a bowl of rice a day. It’s exploitation of people on so many levels it really is disgusting. 🙁
For now new users will have to be admin approved. It’s a pain for me and I’ve strongly resisted doing that as it’s a pain for users as well but, it’s the only way to effectively try to stop it from happening.
Of course, you can never totally stop it, you can just keep it to a minimum.
An people think this internet lark is easy! :rolls:

On a rugby fans website that I use they brought in a rule that only subscribers with a paid for email address could join and post on the site.
ie no hotmail etc.
Result…..No spam.
Also to register you have to answer a question on the sport which is easy for us but to a spammer on the other side of the globe would be too difficult.Just a thought. 💡
