ParticipantHad a call to an AW23 today (3 months old) for a leak. Traced it to the soap hose socket where it fits to the soap drawer. The tub has been hitting it and has worn a hole through the edge of the socket and it leaks badly!
No problem, I thought, and whipped the one off my spares machine to find – Oh no, that’s done the same…..just not right through…..yet. 😯
Both machines have worn soap drawer hose sockets and scuffs on the soap drawer outer from contact with the concrete weight. I looked at a new unused AW23 (with transit bolts removed) and the gap between the soap drawer hose and the tub is less than 20mm. The weight gap is the same. 😕Has anyone else had issues with this? 2 machines from 2 different homes with the same problem. The donor machine would have had the same failure at some point; the hose was 1/2 worn through. The water leaks in the same position as the “high water pressure soap drawer leak” issue and that resulted in suspension unit failure.
I’m going back with the replacement hose tomorrow; but I’m not confident…… 🙁Steve.

Yes, first one reported a few days ago. Hose replaced and, as yet, problem solved.
There’s not a huge amount of room in there though Steve due to the tilt on the drum.

Hi Steve,
Had exactly the same fault yesterday, not even reported it yet. Replaced with hose from stock machine to keep customer happy. Some time ago I had a similar problem. The customer complaint was noisy machine. It turned out to be the tub front/rear flange banging the soap draw dispenser/hose during distribution speed when the drum has most movement. This would soon have worn a hole in the hose. I eventually cured this by replacing the left hand (single) suspension leg. Interestingly I have recently had to go back and change the other two suspension legs.
If the new soap dispenser hose I have just fitted gets damaged again I will suggest replacing all three suspension legs as well as the hose.

I fitted a new soap hose today and protected it with a piece of clear plastic held under one loop of the clip. The tub rim will hit the plastic before it wears the hose.
Here’s hoping…….

I use a wood workers rasp to take off some of the tub rim giving extra room for the hose. A good hose clip will help protect the hose.

Well just had another soap hose holed…… 😯 I sorta knew what the problem would be so I took the replacement soap hose off the donor machine and looked for contact damage. To my surprise – none. This machine had been a swap over for the high pressure / soap drawer leak problem so it had been used before. It was an early version with ISE2 AW23 on the drawer. The tub is noticably lower in relation to the soap drawer and the hose was unmarked. I took the lid and transit bolts off a new machine and the tub is very close to the soap drawer – both the machines that have had this problem were sold in the last 3 months. I have quite a lot of AW23’s out there so I am getting worried. The water leaks into the base over the suspension unit – the one I have just been to had filled the base tray and produced a large puddle on the floor. This machine was only supplied on the 12th May.
I know it’s a “small problem” but it needs to be remedied. After extolling the virtues of ISE and making the sale, it doesn’t make the agent look good…….. 😳Steve.

Steve,
I have had to return to both of my problem machines and replace soap hose’s again. Do you have any idea why the drum appears to be sitting higher on the later machines?
I have resorted to Mike’s solution of cutting off some of the tub rim on both machines, but this is not a satisfactory solution and hacking bits off someone’s new machine looks very unprofessional. Any one else experienced this problem and found a better solution?Regards Ron.

Had my first one today, only 4 months old. The top of the drum is almost touching the hose. :rolls:

Has there been any contact or response from Amica about this problem, it can only be described as very poor design. 😥
Just installed one this afternoon and the drum is virtually touching the hose already, you wouldn’t be able to slide a couple of sheets of paper between them. :rolls:

Yesterday I went to a 15 month old AW23 to change the start button & board.
Not a massive clearance but nowhere as close as yours Jim. I wonder if the suspension is being manufactured by another supplier or something?
A heavier or oversized top weight may be the easiest solution?
❓

I have just been having a close look at my ‘donor’ machine.
I think it might be possible to trim about 10mm from the bottom of the dispenser aperture and still be able to refit the hose to it.

Can we check and see which versions are affected?
Perhaps we could list them to see?
There are two 1145243 and 45243086 this one has had changes made to it whether it is related to drum space?

Okay…
Steve (Aqualectric) seems to have figured this out and with some help from him and John Mac I think we know what’s going on.
The back suspension leg comes adrift/gets twisted in transit if they’re a bit rough and pushes the back of the tank up and to the left (from the front), meaning that the tank sits too close to the SD.
The rear spring may also be a bit too strong and needs “adjusted”. 😉
Once that’s sorted the tank will drop away from the SD leaving a decent clearance.
Big thanks to Steve and John on this, muchas help!
This will obviously affect all the Amica platform machines, not just the AW23.

How can legs get twisted if transit bolts are still in place:?:
Is it the engineers who installed them are throwing them about after bolts are removed 😆 😆August 4, 2010 at 12:39 pm #322377johnmac11
ParticipantRe: AW23 soap hose
As Ken says I went to one yesterday and found that the seam on the tub was hitting bang in the centre of the hose just below the dispenser clamp.
I took the bottom plate off and could see that the L/H suspension leg below the soap drawer was twisted towards the back of the machine, I took the top spring off at the back panel and the leg straightened up. So I jammed a pair of mole grips onto the spring and stretched it slightly and refitted. The seam on the tub had moved forward about an inch and is now clear of the soap hose.
Before doing this look at the front counterweight in relation to the the steel bar behind the control panel, if it is the same as the one I went to the counterweight will be miles off being parallel with the bar.
