Fasinating thread.
But has the programme aired yet?I was wondering if it wasnt tied in somehow to one of these ‘tart a house up and make a fortune when you sell it’ type progs. Plenty of them around last few years but with property prices going ever skywards, it must be harder to refit a kitchen, so hence cheaper capital costs on the refurb. Who cares then if an appliance might only last six months. They’ve made there money on a shiny new kitchen.

ParticipantOliver seems to be very conspicuous in his absence.
“The art of getting lower prices” is, of course, haggling. Sadly, it’s rife all over the UK and leads to the import of cheaper and cheaper inferior goods – and the export of more and more UK jobs to the sweat shops in the third world.
Buy properly designed, built and longer lasting British products. In the long run pay lower taxes as there’ll be far fewer benefits claimants.
When someone says “you got what you paid for” it’s not just the item you have to consider – it’s also the socio-economic consequences.
ADDED – Oops. I guess he would be conspicuous in his absence, given the age of the thread! 😆

think that Oliver may have the wrong idea about this site and what we are trying to do and that is keep machines running longer than the manufacturer intended, i am sure there is nothing more that the manufacturers would like than to be able to sell there appliances so cheap that they are not worth repairing and the customer can buy another what a fantastic idea then we could really fill up our green belt with nice shinny broken machines anyway i could keep going but i doubt that Oliver will return, but if you do read this OLIVER and you really do have the power to back up your opening statement BBC TELEVISION WANT TO HELP YOU!!! then they could start by lowering the licence fee, prehaps by sacking all the idiots that sit and “research” all day only to come up with this sort of crap! im off you are raising my blood pressure.
