Participanthi guys going to this morn only 15 months old .. machine is dead no display .. power fuse electric fine .. any common fault on these ? sounds like a pcb fault
to meJune 8, 2020 at 7:59 pm #469449michaelnaylor1983
ParticipantHi. I’ve changed 3 or 4 of these boards in the last couple of months for that fault. All washer dryers. Really easy to swap and not too expensive.

Participanthi which board ? i spoke to my main retail guy .. and he menshioned some . new wiring harness needed ?too

Moderatorcant see any wiring mods
can see board part no 2437301081probably just the power supply on the main board. Check the inrush resistor
list of mods see pic

Participantinrush thats a new word for me ? what causes that .. to damage board ? spike in electricity ? or might be motor ? these brusless machines are crap ..

Moderatorit will be a switch mode power supply. a switch mode power supply starts off by converting ac to dc and smooths it in a capacitor. if you just turn this on the charging current of the cap is so high it can blow things. to combat this they add a resistor normally between 20 to 50 ohms or so to keep this current down. this resistor is also a fusible resistor so if the power supply chip fails or something shorts out the resisitor will burn out. so the resistor slows down the inrush of current on turn on

Participantyou done any off these ? do you thinks its main pcb …a dont think its worth getting involed. its 50 mile way from me in glasgow . letting agent i do work for tho … mmmm .

Participantyou say in rush resistor . is this like a fuse you can just replace ?or we talking soldering in a resistor ?
June 9, 2020 at 12:43 am #469456electrofix
Moderatorthe power comes off the mains through the resistor (yellow arrow ) through a rectifier and charges the caps nets to it to 300v DC. it is then fed to the power supply chip (blue arrow ) to drop it to 12
this is not the board you have ( image borrowed from post by holytree in simple pcb repair tips ) but it should give you an idea. Look for the resistor and see if its blown. if yes and you can solder change the resistor and the chip

Participanta think i would just replace the board .. wonder what causes board to blow ?the motor ? door interlock maybe ?also do these types of boards hold a charge ,,can you get a shock off them .?even if been off for a while ?

ParticipantI have just had a quick look at the parts list and it looks to be basically the same machine as I did last week with the same symptom only mine was a washer only but it may give you a pointer.

Moderatorthis fault 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time is just a surge problem. This chip is only supplying the 12v or so power supply to the board elecrtronics so a motor failure should not affect it unless its an electonic board within the motor I always advise customers to turn off at socket these days as a lot of machines are powered 24/7. There are also other cause as i recently had a slug crawl onto a hotpoint board. It was ok till it found 300VDC. changed resistor and chip and all ok. the alternative would have been a call from hotpoint to fit and programme a new board
if you check the resistor or the low voltage board supply and its failed then you can be reasonably confident its the boardif the resistor is ok i would disconnect all you can to eliminate any other component stopping the board starting

Participantso you fixed the board did you ? thats impressive .. take it you have all the sldering kit ?
June 9, 2020 at 9:01 am #469461electrofix
Moderatorjust a good quality soldering iron, flux and desolder braid. not to mention 2 pairs of glasses so i can see the things lol
to be honest i get a lot of board power supply problems
you need to try and learn little bits after all you cant lose anything because your swopping boards anyway so if you dont try the board is scrap. The components are also cheap so £5 woth of component can be added to the bill as a £30 board repair

Participantmmm a might have thought tampering with a board a bit dodgy tbh …. what if it goes wrong ? think you would be in the shit?naw:rolleyes:
