    Hi everyone and many thanks for all the info.

    Just washed a few towels and they spun successfully, 8) so it does sound as if the unbalanced load sensor was just protecting the machine.

    I am a bit 😳 as there is a sticky about this which specifically points out that:

    … a single heavy item may never spin as it will always be unbalanced.

    Now, I am off to Afghan in a while …. don’t want the brushes wearing out while I am away. Anyone any idea of how long I might get out of the remaining 10mm of wear?

    Depends how often you use the machine 😉 but for normal usage 2-3 years should be about right. New they are about an inch long.
