If it is the long bar for fitting Hotpoint dryer belts, its simple.
In the base there is a slot just past the motor looking from the motor side of the machine.
Insert the thin end of the tool into the slot, hook the two little pegs over the belt and lever the belt down under the pulley.

Would you be willing to sell it?

Surely you have your own, big trusty screwdriver Martin. 😀
When you get to our age and are still able to do a full days work then using your ‘special tools’ is to be recommended. 😉
Young Jim. 😆

I couldn’t manage without my belt fitting tool and it’s sad to realise one isn’t being used. I could find a good home for another. 🙂

An alternative to a big screwdriver is to use a 11mm spanner. Open end grips the motor spindle and you can then put the belt over the other end and lever the spanner down, meaning the belt slides easily onto the motor. Find it’s a lot easier this way as the screwdriver can slip around on the motor but the spanner doesn’t.
Always works first time for me and saves some space in the van :).

Trusty screwdrivers, iron bars and now 11mm spanners. 😯
These new belts only just slide onto the drum and as stretchy as a length of old rope. The magic of leverage over the resistive forces needed to stretch that sodding belt are best applied with the correct tool for the job. Much like I prefer a power screwdriver over the conventional screwdriver. OK it takes up more space to carry but does the job painlessly and in a fraction of the time.
😀

It sounds weird and obviously if you have the tool already there’s no point but a spanner makes this belt change dead easy, literally a 10 second job as most of us have 11mm in the toolbox to hand.
One less thing to carry in Oxford, where you often have to walk a few minutes to the house = good thing in my books.

Do you poke the special tool through that plastic capped , wide hole in the kick plate area, after having reassembled the machine? I’ve never had the special tool as don’t do enough to justify the purchase. Presuambly screwdriver / spanner users fit belt before putting front on?

All done with front panel in place, special tool or screwdriver/spanner method, from the right hand side ( from front) with side panel removed.

Funny, it’s about a year since I last got called to do one. Can scarcely remember how it’s done. But I can remember a hole in the kickplate which has a plastic cover with a picture / diagram embossed in it which I imagined had to do with the special tool. If not, what’s it for? Oh, I mean VTDs not CTDs.

I must be going about the job all to cock then as (e.g. VTD60P) I do the following: –
Remove lid, R/H side panel, Withdraw internal vent tube clear of front, remove control panel, remove screw holding front panel to the L/H side panel and pull front panel forward clearing the drum sufficient to feed the belt onto the drum. Resecure front panel, refit control panel, relocate internal vent tube. THEN I stretch the belt over the motor pulley with the special tool before finally refitting the R/H panel and lid!
So where am I going wrong? 😕

Mike.
that hole/cover is where the pcb mounts (on machines that have them, on those that dont its just a covered hole) and allows access for the hardware key……dont try fitting a belt on through there! -
