ParticipantDoes anyone know how to check if the sensor is working in the door panel.
This is the one that is connected to the PCB.The 4th light from the left is flashing, I have had the heater checked by an electrician I use and he says it is ok.
I have read on the forums that it could be the NTC which as I understand is the above mentioned sensor. Or if anyone knows what else this Fault light could signify. I would appreciate advice. I have phoned HOtPOINT and they are totally unhelpful in this area. Preferring for me to book a callout for an engineer. The PCB was replaced last November, so I am assuming it is not that.
If it is I will have to check the warranty on the repair.October 14, 2010 at 5:06 pm #332844iadom

NTC would not give that fault, I fitted a new PCB to one of these less than 12 months ago and it has failed in the same way this week. :rolls:
Most engineers will now only give three to six months warranty on these parts, the Indesit Company themselves will guarantee it for all of 90 days. 😥
NB. Light 3 would flash if NTC was faulty.

Thanks iadom.
Any idea what else I could check.
It is only the 4th light that is flashing.

If the heater checks out perfectly then its 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain the sub standard, poor quality Indesit PCB has failed once more.
Follow your own inclinations in your other thread and buy something better. 😉

I have a hotpoint bfi620. Hotpoint engineers have been out at least once a year from new. Its broke again, eco light flashing, runs for a while, some things clean, then stops. Wasn’t prepared to give Hotpoint any more of my money. I found this forum, it’s not the float switch so seems it’s a heater fault. Tested heater, ok, so its the pcb. Thought I would look just incase something obviously wrong with pcb. Nothing obvious so reassembled whilst waiting for part to arrive. Eternal optimist so thought why not give it a go. Now it fills then empties, lights 1 and 3 flash, then stops. Flashing lights 1 and 3 means either filters blocked or machine is rubbish, cant be blocked filters as they weren’t blocked 5 minutes before therefor machine rubbish qed.
great forum thank for help.

Well you could say I took an informed gamble and it did not pay off.
Having checked with the people who I bought the PCB off last November. They confirmed “No warranty”.Spoke to Hotpoint, who said error code was their AL08. which is TIMEOUT-HEATER.
Having already checked the heater, and a continuity test on all the wires from the PCB to their point of plugging in.
I decided to go for a new PCB (thinking better to spend £60, than £400 to £500 on a new Bosch machine) with Christmas looming.Put the new PCB on, tried the rinse programme, and now the 4th light is permanently on(not flashing) have tried resetting with 1-power off,2-with standby switch off. 3-pressing standby and programme switch simulataneously.

Did you test the heater for insulation, if it is down to earth it can give all sorts of spurious errors.
You could try removing the new PCB completely then refitting the old one, switching it on and allowing it to run until it faults then refitting the new one which may be stuck on factory reset. You should have followed your first instincts, these machines are a heap of trouble.
Reset is achieved by holding the P button in until you hear one long beep followed by three shorts ones with power on.

I presume that I do the resistance test for the insulation, across the heater and disconnect the earth, neutral and live first. Or should I leave the earth wire connected to see if there is a break in this?

Just pull the plug out of the heater, leave the earth connected and test from either terminal to any metal point in the machine or indeed the earth terminal itself.

I tested the heater with a PAT tester.
Connecting a direct supply to the heater it heated up in no time at all.
Then I plugged in to the PAT tester, knowing that the heater was up to temperature.
Tested for earth and insulation.
Both perfect.Re-fitted the old PCB. Reset.
Put new PCB back on, managed to press the P button to reset, the number 4 light went out. But now no lights on, and cannot select any programme.
Do you think the new PCB is faulty.October 19, 2010 at 5:23 pm #332853iadom

Its an Indesit, anything is possible. Do any lights come on if you refit the old PCB?

Hi
Yes. As soon as I put the old PCB on.
I reset the machine, and then could select any programme, as normal.I didn’t run the machine because I know it wasn’t working before, and kept coming up with the error light on number 4.
I then put the new PCB on, and as mentioned above after pressing the P button to reset, now no lights come on.
I turned the power off at the mains, and the standby button.
But there is still nothing.October 20, 2010 at 8:43 am #332855aldby

Hi
This morning i phoned my local service agent up where I got the new PCB.He said he didn’t know what the problem was, and that the PCB could not be faulty???
He gave me the number for Hotpoint, and when speaking to them they said the card would need programming. If I had bought it direct from them, they would have asked me if I wanted it programming as they sell them normally not pre-programmed.
Does this sound right to you.October 20, 2010 at 10:02 am #332856iadom

That PCB does NOT need programming, it is a plug and PRAY module. :rolls:

Hi
Just out of interest I took what appeared to be (a jumper) off the old PCB on the right hand side, and put it onto the new one. I presume this was correct. The new PCB did not have one, so I thought it was a reusable component. -
