I had thought that there was a concrete one on the front of the tub, around the door seal.
What sort of noise is it? Clonking, knocking, thudding, scraping, banging, clattering, cracking, clacking……….

Well Penguin45 your certainly a master of the English language,, its really difficult trying to put a name around a noise.
I have just done a wash and pulled the washer halfway out so that I could feel the cabinet to see if the drum was banging against the side but I could feel nothing.
There does seem to be more vibrating and I think it would be described as banging,, I though for a moment that it was banging against the cupboard but it isn’t,, the banging intensifies as the speed increases.July 6, 2007 at 11:51 pm #209639Penguin45

Drum support? That’s the three legged bit on the inside of the tub which the shaft joins on to. It’s a light alloy construct and they rot through in soft water area. A broken leg would let the drum bang about with a load. To check, turn the drum by hand until you have a paddle at 6 o’clock, then try and pull the drum towards you. You should feel no movement. Repeat for the other two – one may feel loose, and you’ll see the edge of the drum lift relative to the door gasket.
Can’t think of anything else at the moment.

Penguin45,, Thank you once again my friend.
After taking a lot more time looking properly at the inside of the machine I discovered the problem.
The suspension legs or dampers whatever they are called are fixed to a plate, which is then bolted to the cast iron collar at the side.
With this being on the side I missed it. I have tightened everything up and tried a wash,, its working fine again (until next time)
Just look over your shoulder when your out and about,, it could be me stalking you 😆 😆
There’s a nice bungalow round the corner from me up for sale , it might be easier if you moved in.
Any idea how much a nice new soap drawer would be, my wife has hinted a new one would be nice??
Thank you again

Soap drawer is p/no 55X2777, pretty hefty price last time I checked (£40 odd plus VAT). Chuck it in the dishwasher……… 😀
Glad you got it sorted,

WELL PENGUIN45 IT LOOKS AS IF LADY LUCK HAS FINALLY RUN OUT ON ME.
THERE WAS A VERY STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM THE MACHINE WHEN ON FINAL SPIN, THEN SMOKE APPEARED AND I QUICKLY TURNED IT OFF. THE HOUSE SMELLS AWFUL I AM JUST RELEAVED THAT WE WERE AT HOME. I HAVE TAKEN THE BACK OFF AND THE MOTOR HAS ALL BLACK STUFF AROUND THE ARMATURE AND FEELS HOT. DID YOU SAY YOU HAD ONE OF THESE IN YOUR BACK GARDEN,, IS THE MOTOR ANY GOOD, OR IS IT TIME TO SPEND SOME OF MY HARD EARNED PENSION. THANKS RUSSELL

“Had” is the operative word, I’m afraid (The motor was shot, BTW). Last time I priced one up, it was about £140 plus the VAT…………
Time for one of these:

Thanks Penguin,, I wish I could afford the Ise machine but the realty is I can’t and I am going to have to look at something else I can afford.
Thank you again my friend. REGARDS

Base model Bosch is not bad value for money (£280 ish?). Gorenje is new and a bit different and not too expensive (waits for the screams…..). Bear in mind that you will get what you pay for – we expect the ISE5 to last 10 years, so £45/year is really quite attractive.
Good luck with whatever you choose – I’m off to Cornwall for a week, so won’t be around much.

Hello Penguin45.
We’ll my friend I went out and bought a Bosch 1200 classic express.
We have done 2 washes on the second wash at final 1200 spin stage there was a noisy rattling sound and I turned it off thinking there may have been a hair grip or a coin rattling about, but when I emptied the clothes out I found a metal bone which I discovered from my wife that it had somehow come out of one of the bras in the wash, I took this one out my wife checked all the bras and found one bra with no bones in at all. She didn’t think this one had bones origionally but wasn’t sure.We have done another wash since and on final 1200 spin something is making a rattling sound as it gets to its high speed, I am worried in case a bone which is a half circle shape may have managed to wriggle its way through the inner drum holes and is now between the 2 drums. Is this possible and what do I do now.. Thank you

Ah…….. The joys of the undewired bra. Keeping engineers employed since the 60’s!
Yes, they frequently escape and find their way between the drums. You can occasionally get lucky and find a trailing end caught in one of the dimples and can pull it back through. Usually, they get caught on the heater – disassembly required……..
Bosch may consider this misuse, so may not be prepared to remove it under the terms of the warranty.

Thanks Penguin45,,, What do you think the worst case is cost wise, if disassembly is needed.I dont have any idea what Bosch service costs are. I suppose it will depend on the engineer, on how he reports and rectifies the fault. When you say disassembly does that mean the drum has to come out??

The easiest way is usually to get the bottom hose off the tub, ‘fiddle’ the bra wire to the opening with small screwdrivers through the holes in the drum and drop it out 😉

You can do it – we got you through the bearings and all that……
A powerful torch is a Godsend if you are trying to fiddle it back to the sump opening – you can often see enough to find and track the damn thing.
