ParticipantHi everyone,
I have a bosch classixx maxx freedom performance dishwasher and it’s a strange one. The dishwasher fails to heat the water up if I leave it alone, however… as soon as I open the door and then close it again, bingo – it heats up. This means that it only washes properly if I open and close the door after it fills up for each cycle that heat is needed (so not the pre wash). If I leave it alone then it will run all day!
The question is, what impact is opening the door having on the programme? I am literally opening and closing the door in about 2 seconds. Initially I thought it wasn’t getting enough water in, and would add a jug or water myself once the main cycle had started it. I thought I had it all worked out and replaced the inlet valve, but I am still having problems! The dishwater wasting heating up because I added additional water, it was heating up because I had opened the door! Bizarre!
Can anyone help? Thanks!

I’m more than confident someone can help you out. What’s the model number of this Classixx by the way as Bosch made 1000’s of variants?…

Possibly a chaffed wire in the door loom

There’s a good chance it’s a 45cm machine Andy so they’re not known for wiring harness probs.
I cannot visualise anyone opening and closing a dishwasher door every few seconds in order to get it to heat. Fairy liquid and a wash bowl has got to be a more effective alternative, surely. :clown:

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies so far! Ok, I have taken a picture of it so hopefully you’ll have a better idea of what it is!
Any ideas?

The dishwasher does get nice and hot once I have opened the door – steam rolls out so I think we can rule out any local problems with the heating element. The inlet valve has been changed so it’s highly unlikely to be that either.
The question is, exactly what triggers the heating elements to kick in? Is there some sort of pressure switch and can opening the door influence it?

We guessed already what it is, what we don’t know is what the MODEL NUMBER IS..? It would help a whole bunch if you could tell us….. 😉

Ok, it’s quite hard to read but I think it’s: sgs43c12gb/16

Check water pressure/level. When you open close the door air is trapped forcing water into the appliance. You may want to check microswitch on element and water level via the flow meter, possible too little is entered, units believes it’s correct but not enough has filled for heater protection to actuate until you open and close the door forcing the water pressure down into the sump.

Thanks Lee. I’m running a main wash right now – I switched the dishwasher on and waited for the pre-rinse cycle to finish (15 mins), I then let it run for a further 20 mins or so on the main wash and then opened the door to see if there was any heat… stone cold. I closed the door and after just a couple of minutes opened it up again, it was already getting hot.
In order to check the parts you have mentioned, do I need to remove the side panel? How do I get access to these parts? It seems more and more likely that there is some sort of pressure issue… but are we ruling out any sort of electrical fault? When I open the door I am breaking a circuit, right? That then stops the dishwasher until I close it again, causing it to resume. Is it at all possible that something happens whilst the power is off? Do any of the sensors/valves/switches get reset?
All your efforts are great appreciated – thanks!

Ok, I’ve taken the side panel off and here’s a few pictures… it all seems pretty clean to me!

Again, slightly closer.

There seems to be a bit of a build up just under these sections at the bottom of what I presume is the pressure chamber – perhaps these need to be cleaned out? If so, how do I detach the pressure chamber?

Hi Martin, I’ve attached a few photos – everything looks clean to me. What do you think?

I’m thinking I would like to check the main PCB for a burned heater relay terminal. Also, when it stops filling, how much water is in the tub?
