Why not use WD40?, I agree with Cornwall40, take the D nut off the shaft and soak with WD40, wait for 5 min, easy, always managed to remove them, lets not make this job any harder than it needs to be. 😀

As it is oil based water repellant and used liberally then use of the oven afterwards causes smoke and your beef hotspot tastes like a dog end in a pub doorway!
….Also, spill some on the catalytic liner and stain cannot be removed. 😯

I was mainly worried about the smell afterwards. And the possibility of fumes or toxins getting in my customers food. Or is that not a worry?

No, not a worry, always tell the customer to run the oven for five to ten minuites and the fumes burn off really quickly, never had negative feedback from customers using WD40 or silicone sprays.

i just deflect rhe fan slightly.Hmmm…..the problem there is that the fan shaft can bend causing the fan blade to run out of true. This in turn causes oscillations , noises and even the blade to strike the top securing screw. I’ve seen this numerous times.
The blade on the fans are ‘balanced’ , much like a car wheel. If you do ever take one Off , look at the back of it . It will have little counter sunk holes to ensure true running.November 11, 2012 at 11:13 am #383209suedehead1

i would have thought a minor deflection would be preferable to WD40,blow lamps, cold chisels, laying the oven on its back and using a hammer on it.
To be fair however I have only changed a couple I dont see many of those fancy ovens round here most still setting a fire in the back garden.November 11, 2012 at 6:14 pm #383210Martin

I half suspected your earlier post was a little tongue in cheek anyway because, speaking as one that has done loads, access to that screw behind the fan is pretty nigh fraught with difficulty. That isn’t to say it impossible but irrational in the extreme to even attempt without realisation that the motor shaft will suffer as will the oven lining. And replacing the screw hitherto impossible anyway. ” minor deflection” it ain’t, sorry but pull the other one. 😐

Fitted a new neff B/U dbl oven last week, the old one was a neff also so for a laugh i sprayed wd40 on the shaft, removed the fan then pretended to change the element, reassembled and tested on fan oven setting, what a stink, wouldnt reccomend this method of repair.
I know have a new way of doing it, i wave my screwdriver at the nut and shout abracadabra and the nut and fan fly off ready for heater replacement! No oil, no heat, no bending the shaft!
