The new installations now have to be hard piped, older may be on flexi hose.
I appreciate that you want to clean under it but there is a chance that if it is hard piped, you may put stress on the joint/s and comprimise the pipe soundness ie – cause a leak that may or not be detected by sense of smell.
A quick look under the hob will reveal if its hard or flexi piped.
GregHi, new installations dont have to be a rigid fix if the manufacturer allows it in their handbook (stoves for example always did, even after that was made a gas reg).
Iff you do try to lift the hob to clean then like gegsy said you could easily cause a leak, esp if there is compression fittings to the hob.
Its not really worth cleaning under it anyway as it would be just a mucky again in a few weeks (the grease is like an extra seal 😉 ) and you could damage your hob aswell if its the type that has a detatchable hotplate top with the screws going directly into the worksrface inside the hob.
